choosing not to vote

Hurricane season already? :p

But like I told him, it may not be against the rules to come to a South African forum and complain about South Africa; but it still makes him look like and ass.

No. It only confirms the bitterness he denies and shows us inadequacies s/he cannot hide.

I honestly cannot take anyone seriously who says: They can "out-argue" anyone. I may live in a 3rd world country, doesn't necessarily mean I am a fool contrary to prejudice view of our unenlightened guest.

A friend decided that since he can't find a single party whose policies he agrees with, or any candidates who he trusts and respects, that he will abstain from voting.
He will vote by not voting. When I mentioned this to friends last night I was basically told he was a traitor and blah blah blah. But surely it is not only my democratic right to not vote, but my duty to abstain when I find all the options to be insincere, untrustworthy and power hungry?
What do you think?

Tell your friend to spoil your ballet. That way you show you approve of the democratic process but not the choices.

To simply not vote shows me what you think of the rest of us and our futures. Tell your friend not to be lazy and vote... or spoil the vote.

Yes and I am grateful to be rid of having to fraternise with the likes of you. The ANC must be treating you well these days.

Now I work for the government. If this is the calibre of "out-argue" then I simply cannot resist to rest on what I said previously.

Your inadequacies are not very charming.

Enjoy the weather!

South Africans were so brainwashed by the Apartheid government to be apathetic about voting.

Put effort in peeps.. this is about everyone.

There is no opposition, even if there was, it doesn't make a difference either way. You wanna call the DA and this new COPE opposition? Get real man.

The only person who is bitter on the SA internet is you. Bitter 'cos you can't handle the truth about your beloved little utopia called SA.

So what if I leave with nothing, of course South African government is the ANC, why the **** are they called the "ruling party" then? Oh what shall we call 'em then, the go-betweens? Further up it was discussed about how they can and have changed the constitution, and now I get told I am wrong in calling them the ruling party. Jeez... which is it, is it the one or is the SA government some mystical body controlled by the ANC?

Me, bitter, doubt it dude. Even if I was I wouldn't tell you. I am sure there oughta be some very bitter people in this country, and I don't blame them, as this ANC govt blows!

your beloved government says its OK to:

- steal from white people 'as their right'
- sleep around and then shower afterwards to wash off the HIV
- allow people to mean they will kill for Zuma
- constantly invent new taxes to punish the "ungrateful hated whites"
- effectively disarm the law abiding public with the new gun laws
- tamper with the medicine industry to make it "cheaper" but instead made it more expensive and f*cked it all up royally
- create a political and socio-economic climate where monopolies and cartels thrive

the list goes on....

Ignorant and bitter - all it makes for is a sad little rambler. All your points have adequately shown that you know nothing about this country except some unfortunate diatribe you picked up in a newspaper or on the Internet.

I especially like this point coming from someone in the USA:

create a political and socio-economic climate where monopolies and cartels thrive

Just answer me this: US goverment = Democrats, even in a Republican State like Texas. That does seem to be your definition of democracy, I guess.

As for this:

Yes and I am grateful to be rid of having to fraternise with the likes of you. The ANC must be treating you well these days.

Well it just goes to show that you deserve yourself. I'm beginning to wonder if everyone in Texas is as unpleasant as you. Do you get to pat eachother on the back, or have a shot of Tequila, every time you put down a third world country? Your family must be very proud

Dude.. you come from a country that chose GW Bush as its president.. no offense .. but even Zuma is smarter than GW. That has to be the thickest worst president any country has ever elected.

He laughed all the way to the bank.

So you're easily offended, because those who don't vote, are saying effectively STFU?

Your ANC bigotry is not very charming to me, but it ain't going to put a mark on my day.

Ha ha! We're turned a corner. Now, according to LeetStone, not only is the government completely ANC, but so is every single last South African living on the African continent.

Good gracious, I didn't realise small mind syndrome could rub off so quickly on you when you move the USA!

Yeah lets blame apartheid. Hello Wizard, how is Jacob today, is he going to get off of his corruption charge?

BTW I didn't vote for Bush, at the time I wasn't allowed to vote. So don't f*cking dare blame me for that. He was already in office when I got there.

According to you, voting makes no difference, so I can definitely blame just by way of living in the country. Or is your logic flawed?

No they ain't, it's just about three or four people on a South African forum who love the ANC to bits and cannot see anything wrong with SA. The same three or four people who represent everything I hate about South Africans.

Dude, I am the furtherest thing from and ANC supporter, you seem to fail to see that. However, I am a proud South African, that loves my country and calls it my home. I will protest any bad mouthing by non-South Africans as they have no right to come to my country and complain about it.

But I do see where you're coming from, and feel a fool for even bothering to try have a constructive argument with someone so close minded.

And that is your problem, not mine. Unlike you I have flawed and closed minded opinions. Just a pity you can't be a man about it, oh no, you have to try and lure me into a flamewar to try and get me banned.

Fixed.

I'll make it your problem if you think you have the audacity to bad mouth my country in a South African forum.

You're quite obsessed about being banned, aren't you? Considering this is a South African forum, run by South Africans in South Africa, maybe you just shouldn't have come here in the first place. Maybe you should go find a little Texan forum to go voice your opinion where it matters.

Oh but you see it fit to badmouth the USA, so what if this is a South African forum, everyone has an equal right to post here, except a few ANC members like yourself that will whine about this and that and be crybabies because someone comes along and has the balls to tell you some home truths about your country.

You're not getting much of a reaction outta me about the US or our presidential choices, and even less reaction will be forthcoming, but, I think you oughta be put in your place and I will do it, in the kindest way possible.

Yet again you have missed the point. I am not in an American forum, this is a South African forum - you are the one out of place. I have not come on to a USA forum and complained about their government; you have been rude and obnoxious to believe you have the right to do so - I am not that arrogant.

Secondly, just in case you have difficulty reading, I am hardly an ANC supporter and rigorously oppose this government. But you have failed once again to understand the democratic process.

You seem to believe that just because someone is a patriot they have to support the ruling party of the day. Tell that to millions of Republicans.

You are very bigotted, close minded and a coward, sir. I have no respect for your kind.

Yeah yeah, giving you enough rope to hang yourself. I have no respect for your kind either. Its partly your fault SA is in the mess it is in today.

And you are just as much to blame, so we do have something in common.

You know who you remind me of?

Jacob Zuma: you're close-minded, you care about no one but yourself, hate anyone that opposes your opinion, do not understand Democracy and how it works and will do anything to get your way. Actually I take that back, at least Jacob Zuma is still proud to be called South African.

George bush won his 1st election in a less fair manor then Robert Mugabe did.

Oh noes! Here it comes - LeetStone is gonna call you anti-American for that comment. At least here in South Africa we know what an ostrich looks like! :D

lol... nice one Timgaul.. a good laugh there... but it suddenly turned to tears...

When I read further and found out Zuma was really a South African

As others have pointed out not voting or a spoiled ballot is still a vote. If this election is typical for South Africa you would be effectively voting for the ANC instead of doing your part to reduce their control.

There have been 15 amendments, none of which threaten the rights of south africans... for example:

amendment 14 and 15 removes floor crossing so members of parliament can't change parties anymore and keep their seats

amendment 12 and 13 changes the geographical areas of certain provinces

terrifying isn't it...

The point is that is shouldn't be so easy for one party to make change to the constitution.

What is they changed the constitution to say that SA is now a communist state and all private property is now state property. That might be unlikely but the point is that they probably could do it if they wanted. And with people less educated than my kid brother in charge of the country, I wouldn't be surprised.

I have a problem with tampering with provincial boundaries...
Like cricket... you can't move the rope because you can't hit 4's or 6's
