Chromebook Pixel unveiled

no harddrive? this is going to be a tough sell. looks good but pass.

Not interested in anything that only really works when you have a data connection...

The Networks is going to love this one. Data consumption to do e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. I cannot even try to imagine my data bill if I were to use this.

But, here is also an opportunity for the Networks ... no data cap with this device. Own APN. Pay fixed amount for data. "BIS for Chrome".

Jannie, waar's jy? Any chance of such a deal?

Can it run photoshop - no, I dont see people switching from their Macbooks, not that PS is the reason to have a macbook, but a lot of people use their macs with PS.

Looks like a fail to me... Costs more than an air and can only work in places with coverage so less portable.

Chromebooks have been the top selling laptops at Amazon.com for several months now, so it makes sense that Google offers a premium product for those users who can afford it, and like the web-only model. It also gives them a device to show off how good the service can be. However, unless you live in Kansas (think Google Fibre), I wouldn't recommend spending that much on a machine that can't run most common software.

Reviews are stating SSD drives in these...

Inside the Chromebook Pixel are a dual-core 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 processor, integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics, and 4GB of memory. The Wi-Fi model has a 32GB solid-state drive (SSD), and the LTE model gets a 64GB SSD, but both come with 1TB of cloud storage with Google Drive for three years.

Who would want a laptop that is reliant on an internet connection... and for that price!
If your connection at the time is slow then your laptop is slow, regardless of hardware.
It is very good looking though.

both come with 1TB of cloud storage with Google Drive for three years.

So after three years you will have to fork out $49.99 per month too :wtf:

1 TB of storage for Drive and Google+ Photos. Plus, an additional 25 GB for Gmail. $49.99 / Month

$1300 for a laptop that with a glorified browser... wow ok. That screen is phenomenal but come on who is going to buy this when they can get an MBP Retina or a 7 Series Cronos for the same price?

lol.

I had a blast reading this article.

I really thought Pichai left out a question mark here:
“People will give up a MacBook Air for this ?,”

So, I fixed it.

More?

Pixel Chromebooks... were released in the United States and Britain, starting at $1,299.
You must be joking. This means this item will sell for R20,000 in SA.

Google Pixel Chrome is like 2 Surface Tablets.JPG
If you ask me, this picture looks like two Surface tablets put together - Surface RT and Surface Pro.

The real kicker:

"...Google will release Quickoffice software for handling documents and spreadsheets after complaints by Chrome notebook users over difficulties when trying to work with Microsoft’s widely used Word or Excel software, according to Pichai".

I wonder what Google thinks of this:

Does anyone want to contest that these guys' thinking is sometimes somewhat warped?

Hilarious!

I like it. Not ideal for cash strapped South Africans who dont have decent bandwidth, but I like it.

The hardware is undeniably brilliant. But do you really think Chrome OS is going to be enough for most users?

A $1300 web browser!!!!
Good luck with that
(However, it's industrial design is not bad. More than a little inspired by the MacBook Pro)

Guys, Google is not trying to create a top selling device here. They are making a statement ... creating a clear new path. They illustrate where they believe computing is going and wanted the first system to walk ahead on this new path. With this expensive version they want to make a specific statement that this new way is for all, incl. those who can afford exclusivity.

Google have just lost their mind recently. Creating products that no one other than some super nerds will want. Google Glasses. Nexus Q. A $1300 Web browser.
