So I've really started using my Chromecast in the past few weeks.
It was actually plugged into the same TV as my WD TV Live, but I actually noticed that I was using the cast more often. A lot less buffering and connectivity issues than the WD TV.

But I did pick up on one thing - I had to do a reboot of the Chromecast every week or so when using Plex. Seems the player became non-responsive, even crashed while playing certain clips. It was on separate power running off a old Galaxy Charger, so it was always on.

I've now moved it to the bedroom and my new Samsung has a powered USB port, so the 'Cast boots up and shuts down with the TV (Ironically enough - using a ridiculously short Nokia USB cable. Seems there is use for old phone accessories.)

The problem seems to have gone away, but has anyone else noticed this?

Possible that it's maybe overheating? I had a Chromecast briefly (gave it to the parents) and noticed that it did get quite warm, I also had to reboot it once or twice but not that much.

you still battling?

Yep. Tried it on one of my days off. It's the chromecast as my router is listed as a approved device and I used the recommended sections for the damn thing. Only thing which occurred to me is it might be the channel number (currently on 10). Will see if I can fix this or it will remain in the cupboard until I move to my new place.

So you cast from plex (assuming from pc), which is not connected to your tv, to your tv (chromecast)?

Yep. I have Plex running on my home server, and cast to the chromecast using whichever tablet is closest as a remote.
Between that, Netflix, Youtube and Crackle - everyone in my house is happy.
Now if only BBC released a Chromecast app...

BBC iplayer app available for Ipad, works great.
Bit of a hassle though for the Android APK.

My 64 year old dad managed to set his up without any help...
:D

how far do you get in the setup. Do you see the chromecast on your wifi so you can connect to it?

Apply ice to burned area and seek medical help.

Please see below
Please see below :)

On iPhone :
  • Disconnect from Home Wifi
  • Find for Chromecast and connect
  • Setup name and connect to home wifi
  • After if configures, I can't connect to the damn thing

On Nexus :
  • Search for Dongle. Finds and Connects
  • Try setup home-wifi. Doesn't work. Revert to iPhone.
  • Once connected to wifi. Try connect to dongle. Doesn't connect. Try PC. Same issue.
  • Activate "Nicci Rage Mode".
