Starting to think the same thing.
If it does the same with another wifi - try to flash it, or take it back.

Won't be replacing my router for the Chromecast.
Will give it one last try tomorrow if I have the time.
My setup:
TV with Chromecast getting internet from a wifi router (which also provides wireless and wired internet to the rest of the computers).
I can connect to the chromecast using Chrome (on my pc) without any problems - can stream youtube, cast the screen, play .mp4 videos etc. I can't seem to get PLEX to see the chromecast though. I'm using PLEX on my pc - last I heard the pc version allows streaming to chromecast. I've got a PLEX account, linked up the Media Manager but still I don't get the option to stream to the chromecast.
Rebooted the chromecast, router, pc etc. and re-installed PLEX but still no chromecast icon. Any suggestions?

Don't know about the PC version, but works fine on the Android version.

@soar. is your plex machine connected via wifi or lan?
My pc is connect via lan to the router - but it does connect to chromecast when using the Chrome plugin for youtube etc.
@ imranpanji: Thanks - I've followed those instructions but still when I log in to https://plex.tv/web via Chrome I don't get a chromecast icon. I also added the exceptions to chrome.
I'll check tonight, but I don't think the web interface casts. You need the app for that

When I setup my chromecast I had to do it from my phone which was connected via Wifi. The setup tool from my lan connected pc didn't want to work. Wonder if it is not related.
Does your lan-connected pc now have the chromecast option when running PLEX?

Check your wifi channel.
I switched to channel 11 because of all the nearby networks, and the Chromecast refused to connect. Back to channel 6 now and it's working fine.

Might try this. Tested this damn thing again at a friends place and yes it is working.

Just an update to the chromecast not being seen by plex (installed on my pc):
In the plex web interface, go to Settings, then under 'Player' uncheck the 'Experimental Player' option. Click back to the Home screen of the plex web center, refresh the page and....I can now see the chromecast.

Thanks - will give it a go. Wasn't aware there was an alternative to plex
.So I have setup my new Chromecast and Plex combo in less than 5 minutes. What a pleasure! I really like the fact that I can start a cast on my phone and the wife can control that same cast on her phone.
And as a little bonus this morning I tested it at work (far away from my home network) and it still worked. Can see all my home content. What a beaut! Can highly recommend it. And all for just R399 for the Chromecast and R53 for the Plex for android.
