Cities: Skylines

Great game, ended up playing until 6 this morning...

I had a problem where at about 25k population, my PC tanked and couldn't deal with the size. Need more ram I guess. Tried to build a second city to lay it out better and ended up killing everyone because I didn't notice that my water tower with just standing in a heavily polluted area. Managed to save it but at a heavy cost.

I'm tempted to buy this game based on all the rave reviews and user feedback. Plus it's a good price on Steam. I think I'll wait a month or so, lest it kill my productivity when I need it most.

How would you guys rank it in comparison to Anno 2070? That's been by far my favourite city building game.

Really enjoying the game but the traffic becomes a nightmare, especially in the industrial areas...

I have zero traffic ;)

Well, besides the trucks going to and from industry, and services (garbage, police etc)

how on earth did you manage that? i had zero traffic when my city was the size of a one horse town

Cims love to walk, and considering that the initial tile is 2x2km, you're hardly asking them to walk far. I've gone a bit overboard with my walkways, I'm thinking over starting over (again :p) and making little communities that'll eventually tie together with public transport somehow. And it will look a bit better than walkways everywhere!

If you don't like that idea, get rid of as many traffic lights as you can. Any two way road (excl the smallest one) will always make lights at intersections, whereas one way roads will never make lights with other one ways, so traffic gets through much quicker

Feel free to post pics of your city or your actual city. Will upload my city (WIP) tonight.

Looking to start a new city with some fresh ideas...

Problem with my cities is I spend 2 hours trying something, then the next day at work I think of new things to try -> new city, start again, repeat :(

I think I'm going to keep one test city at around 20k pop on which I can test new area layouts as I'm desperately trying to move away from grids!

Yeah, same with me.

I'm having luck with one way streets, but providing services for that is a schlep. The exit of the one way streets looks like a spaghetti monstor with overpasses etc. I got my City up to 60k, then it bled down to 55k :/

I made a section of my city a 1way grid, 6 lane street, on some areas the traffic still piles up in just one lane, must be some kind of bug?
My rail road are starting experiencing traffic and the harbor... population almost 60k. will post some pic tonight too :D

What I've done is create mini areas (like 5 or 6 blocks) with one way roads, and then plop services at the start of it - you get almost perfect coverage that way even if the roads dont highlight. Obviously just need a road at the end that joins back up to the start

I made my roads too long, hence the service & traffic problem. I rectified both, added more service buildings on each road, and a spaghetti monster at the end of the road, with overhead passes directly onto the freeway/ Round-Abouts.
