Cities: Skylines

I have a (political) suggestion to make. A mod to allow for South African style city building where you lay down plans for your power plants ahead of schedule, the mayor puts a hold on the construction for some reason and then when it's crunch time, construction begins several minutes after you clicked it down and then it's delayed by striking workers.

Realism = 10/10;
Stress levels = 9999999999999999999999/10;

And of course the Mayor then grabs 25 000 out of your budget to build himself a house.

Sorry, the damned load shedding is getting on my nerves, I wish it was as easy as clicking to fix it.

LOL

My area don't have load shedding :D

So I started building Crapopolis last night..

One question, how do you upgrade the roads?

I started getting heavy congestion at one point, but while I could upgrade my roundabout and some other streets, a certain stretch of road didn't want to. Kept telling me there are pre existing structures or some such ?

You've got plopped buildings (like a police station, power, etc, or ramped roads) that are in the way. Had it been simple zoned buildings they would auto bulldoze and your road upgrade would happen. Look for the plopped buildings, move them or bulldoze them and your road should upgrade without further issue

Cool thanks.
Now that you mention it, I think my bus terminal is on that road.
Any tips on the bus terminal..
Mine kept moaning about circular routes or linked routes, which I fixed by clicking everywhere like a maniac until it stopped.....

I suppose there is a more logical way of sorting out the problem?

The bus thing is not that hard. I mainly use then to transport people in an area to my tube station.

Lets say you have a long double road, your main road in your one area. Start a bus route next to your Tube. Follow the traffic flow / side of the road and plot bus routes at decent intervals (you'll see happy ppl faces).
Turn at the end and do the same in the other directed.
Turn at the other end again and complete it next to your tube station.

People will now take the bus from distance to get to the tube.

In a neighborhood with a bunch of roads just make sure you place the stop on the correct side of the road it it will try and follow a route all over to get to that point. End where u started.

The idea with the buses is to get ppl from an area to specific places like a tube or train so they can get to more distant spots without driving themselves.

Ow and you really only need 1 bus terminal for the most part

Metrorail > bus.

The issue with the bus is that they still clog up the streets, especially in one-way streets where traffic behind them have to wait for buses picking up commuters at bus stops. Metro has practically solved most of my issues. I just made sure to plop down a lot of them and then made sure they're accessible via elevated walkways. The metro station in the middle of my high density residential area regularly gets up to 800 commuters a week and from there it goes to all the industrial areas and offices.

Looks good man.
I have not played for a week or more, don't know why...

The game gets a little boring after a while. Once your city is big and everything works as it should, there's very little incentive to keep expanding.

Hopefully mods or expansions will expand the content.

Yeah, I feel the same as well now :/

Still, it was only intended to be an indie game and it's half the price of a standard AAA game, so I guess it already wins by simply being better than SimCity. I don't think the devs thought the game would ever do this well.

Any tips on how to upgrade residential homes in to high-density apartments? Part of my problems are the fact that I have to keep on adding more and more residential zones to increase population instead of seeing my existing homes increase in density.

In SimCity 2013 you would upgrade your roads and services in existing residential zones and houses would become apartment buildings with higher capacity. Is it the same in Cities?

After you reach a certain population threshold, high density residential zoning will be unlocked. It's a dark green.

Ah, thanks for that.

Is it normal to have a massive urban sprawl before progressing to high density. I'd say two-thirds of my city is just low density residential zones?

Somethingawful`s one-sentence review

Cities: Skylines
EA told us that a modern city building simulator was only possible with cloud computing and brain dead AI that didn't actually simulate anything, so I can only assume this game is the result of a pact with Satan or a rogue Sim City advisor. 8/10

lol

You evil sods..

I've now gone and created a Steam account and bought this game...... *mutter*

Found two very usefull mods that don't really alter the game too much..

Autosave
Autobulldoze - really neat bulldozes abandoned buildings automatically.

Toggle zoning! Now you can control which roads have zoning, so when you make curved roads you don't have to have those awkward corners anymore. Or you can create main roads, and not have to leave huge gaps to the roads next to them so that you get the full 4 depth zone, etc etc

Little bit buggy though from what I can tell, so use at your own risk
