Unless GTA6 does something earth shattering never before seen in gaming, Split Fiction or this is going to win and I'd bet it's going to be this.

I can't stop playing it, I checked the messages on my phone at 20:00 and just wanted to do one more thing real quick before replying and when I saw the time again it was 22:00.

So I've decided to farm XP at the Hidden Gestral Arena by fighting Julien Tiny Head. Get a ton of XP quickly and level up easily
 
Levelled up my characters to all at level 40. The Dualliste boss fight was a breeze and even one of the Chromatic guys was easy.
 
I finished the story at 35 hours in and looking at the map with the places I haven't even visited yet and side bosses to fight still there's easily enough content left to get to 50 hours.

Its definitely up there, but there are a lot of contenders already out AND still coming.

Which ones, other than Doom and Mafia I'm not really excited for anything else, I can't even really think of what else is coming. Already released games the only ones I can think of that can realisticlly compete is Split Fiction and Blue Prince.

Split Fiction and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will definitely compete with the stuff from the rest of the year - Doom the Dark Ages, Death Standing On the Beach, Ghost of Yotei, Silent Hill F and possibly Chronos the New Dawn. Don't think Borderlands 4 and Mafia The Old Country will be big hits.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 does feel like another Baldurs Gate 3 scenario, where an unexpected GOTY comes from a smaller dev.

I completely forgot about Ghost of Yōtei, I think I blanked that consoles exist because everything pretty much releases every at the same time these days, but yeah that's probably going to be amazing.

Now that GTA 6 got delayed we might see some games get new release dates coming this year suddenly.

I love and am looking forward to Doom but it's a tried mechanic and story. This one, is quite frankly art. Something really special would have to knock this down for me as GOTY.

I'm sure I like many others are playing it on Pass so I do hope they get good revenue from that. Can't say I'd outright buy the game as I doubt the replayabiliry is high unless there are dlcs.

Hate to see good IP get hurt.

Larian is not small though :P, they are one of the bigger studios out there with almost 500 employees. BG3 also cost a ton of money and was funded with Tencent cash in part afaik.

Don't forget Nintendo, wouldn't be surprised if they have a GOTY contender releasing somewhere this year. But yea I definitely feel like 33 will currently have a good shot at it.

Yeah 33 is definitely at the top along with Blue Prince, but the Switch 2 launch might throw some stuff in there. Having said that this has already been an amazing year and there are a lot of new stuff still coming.
 
I don't know how or why folks are beating the game at 24 hours.

I only reached Act 2 at 18 hours.

I'm 25 hours in and at the final boss. I have not been rushing and actively seeking out optional stuff to do. I did skip all the mini games because platforming in this game is an effort in frustration.
 
You did not do all optional areas and finish the game in 25 hours.

Got you. Yeah 25h sounds about right then.

I'm at 58h now. Got the last achievements Saturday and I'm in NG+ Frozen Hearts currently. I did everything and since NG+ start I've been skipping all cutscenes but explored all unlocked areas I'm able to get to currently (can't break corals, fly and dive yet). I also used a mod to pass the beach volleyball mini-game.

I'm wrapping up all the side stuff, got to a boss that was very hard but I did it in a couple of tries but then I got to something unspeakable and it took me almost 2 hours.
