Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Imo this game is a 10/10. It's almost genre defining in terms of a turn based jrpg. Or frpg in this case. Stellar music, great story and characters, and a brilliant battle system. I do have my gripes. The menu sucks, some bosses are way harder than enemies leading up to them, and I want a mini map and the ability to put markers on the map.

But this small team making a game like this, damn amazing. I smacked 60 hours to get all the achievements.

This game has elements of Legend of the Dragoon, Final Fantasy 9, 10 and 16, as well as soulslikes in the parry system. Has a world map, and a story torn into 2 parts that seperates each other. Crazy small dev team. They deserve all the praise.

I don’t need a mini-map but a “where is my objective” button would have been nice.

Yeah I forgot where all the Nevrons were for quests and all sorts lol. Needed a guide to mop up the trophies. The inventory was also so bad I ignored it most of the game lol.

I am loving this game, got about 40 hours in it and have not finished the main quest.

I am playing on the most difficult setting so stuff hits hard and I have to min/max my chars all the time. I love that in a game. Currently doing the auto death/revive to buff my party like crazy.

Managed to kill act 2 boss first time which amazed me. Still need the thing that unlocks my damage but have no clue when/where I get it.

The hype this has received is quite ridiculous. I really don't see what the fuss is about. I suppose this is really about newer generations growing up and rediscovering the world.
I wouldn't say that. I'm a old gamer , including the typical jrpg classics like final fantasy 7/8/9/X and others. The mechanics etc are not new but the story and artwork is lovely and the world is a joy to explore.

I would put it on the same level as FFs probably between 7 and 8.

As a new IP, good game with story, score and graphics, it deserves its place.

And yes, I'm 30 hours in and still not finished the main story but close. Few games hold as much attention.

There is a where is my objective button. On the map you get the option and it tracks there.
Hmm will have to have a look, but I meant more an "in world" point me in the right direction button as you can get turned around quite easily and I've found myself losing time more than once backtracking where I just came from.

hehe , try Blue Prince....

I think this might be the most hours I've ever put into a single player game, maybe Skyrim back in the day, but I think it's this.

I have 50 hours on my original save and 35 on my 2nd save.

The reviewer is barking up the wrong tree, saying a map would be useful. Since it's very obviously a game for girls, there's really no point.
I spent a whole evening trying to find out where to go, because I kept missing one little exit to an area. I almost gave up playing right there.

Finished the main story last night. Have about 49 hours played.

Will see how long NG+ keeps my attention before moving on but a great game

Also doesn’t help that more often than not when you Rest at one of the checkpoints it comes back to the game facing a different direction than when you came in.

Yeah I also noticed that. I lost my direction more after fights because you get switched around. The **** village got me lost on my first playthrough but was fine the second as I remembered where I went wrong. Missed a whole bottom section on my first run.

I'm a Souls fan so I love not having maps. Playing Ys Nordics atm and actually thought to myself how I don't like mini maps in games just last night. You end up staring more at the mini map than you do at your actual surroundings.

Understand exploration is not for everyone though.

I've got Maelle at 86 level, have her weapon (Medalum) fully upgraded to 33 and have followed guides to maximise her damage and she's generally inflicted damaged in the hundreds of thousands, occasionally 1 million and rarely 3 million plus.

What am I missing?

You have to be missing a lot of luminas that up your damage.

Maelle was nerfed. So was Medalum and the skill Stendhal.

Use Burning Canvas now. It requires setup.
