Clareinch (Claremont Exchange) Congested

The social media team is supposed to have better trained staff than the call center, so they should understand what ping and latency is.

I'll see if I can find the regional manager's contact info.

I thought so too but it seems they don't get taught it :), I got the number from my friend in the Telkom Direct Store and they emailed him on my behalf.

Also, tell them it's an ESR port at the exchange, not the exchange itself, and that another member of their team has identified and acknowledged the problem. If you want to tell them anything, tell them you want to know an ETA on the solution since you already know the problem exists.

I don't have any friends at Telkom. I might have to go to a store and throw a hissy fit just to get some results.

I can tell you its oversubscribed

I used to get that as well but it seems like all our complaining is getting somewhere because now all I get is "Your speed cannot be determined at this time"

Used both telkom and Afrihost accounts, just to prove it's not an isp issue. Took the liberty of pointing out second hop (exchange hop) ping.

P.S I only realised the other day that Afrihost/MTN don't have a locally cached google.co.za what the hell?

So I'm moving to Claremont soon. I messaged TelkomZA for ETA of my adsl line -
Good afternoon.

There is no ETA at this time. The network has to be upgraded in your area to accommodate the request.
Feedback states that you will be contacted within the next month to schedule an appointment if there are no unforeseen circumstances.
At least they realised that clareinch needs to be upgraded.

Yeah, but an ETA on an issue that was discovered in April would be nice...

Currently have mixed feeling about moving to Claremont all of a sudden. :D:cry:

I know, but this also happened the one Saturday night a couple of weeks back. Fingers crossed they actually fixed it.

The problem is when they test it and clear the fault is when it is fine and they never test it at night when the problem arises so you have to get the regional manager to get someone to test at night or you won't ever get anywhere or get it fixed unfortunately :)

Well it's been ages since it's been this good (touch wood) so we'll see if they've fixed it or not.

Not going to close my fault unless it clears my tracert every night around 9-10pm for a week. Spent this long explaining my problem and I've finally found a telkom rep who agrees with me and knows whats going on. Not going to lose him over 1 good night.

Agreed. My suspicion is that all our combined complaining got someone to go have a look at it and they've done some load balancing.

As a temporary measure this is great. If this is their "replacement solution" I'm not so happy. I can see this going back to being congested in a month or two.
