I had 300 Ping to Mweb server last night at 11.

Got bumped down to 6mb as they think it's my line that isn't stable.

Who are you speaking to? Call center folk? TelkomZA has already confirmed that it's not a line issue.

Having said that, if bumping down all the high end users (including myself) were to, at least temporarily, fix the issue, I wouldn't mind getting dropped from 10 to 6 meg again. Last night's speed was ridiculous. Pings were screwed from 7.30 till 12.15. At least I was out for most of the evening.

I'm going to see what our corporate account manager has to say. Mine hasn't been too bad a past few nights but trying to work tonight is a nightmare.

Try and get some corporate pressure in there. I'm really not keen to wait for the rumoured October upgrades for this issue to be sorted out.

My MD is at the CT office in Claremont this morning
Experienced the Internet speed first hand.
We are getting fibre.
Watch this space.

@Zolly TelkomZA

Bumped down to 4mb.
DownStream Connection Speed 3392 kbps
Update:
8:47 PM: DownStream Connection Speed 2688 kbps Ping: 126ms

Ping still sitting at 150+ ping. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3687266859

Am I the only one who thinks this is some kind of joke? They decreasing speeds and still pings are high. Why can't telkom just spend money to upgrade the fcking exchange instead of lowering the worth of our connection.

Has anyone spoken to the higher ups at telkom yet?

I see Claremont/Kenilworth is due for a VDSL upgrade shortly - according to the roadmap.Guess it's safe to assume that any permanent fix will only happen in conjunction with the VDSL upgrade?

Ah yeah that makes a lot of sense. I mentioned earlier that a friend of mine recently moved to Harfield and when he ordered ADSL he was told "Sorry, the exchange is full." When he asked when he could get it he was told upgrades were planned in October. From this info I basically went "ok, well, Telkom has this planned upgrade but instead of telling us, we're basically going to have to put up with these problems until it's done."

Can you link me to the info about the VDSL upgrade btw?

PM TelkomZA and get him to restore your service to full speed. DO NOT DEAL WITH THE CALL CENTER. The problem isn't your line if you're connected to Clareinch.

Rumoured upgrade is October.

Every night my connection drop to lower syncs. When I wake up it gets restored to 6 mb. I pmed TelkomZA asking him about the progress or any sign that they are going to fix the exchange soon.

I can confirm about the VDSL. When I originally placed a request for service for 20mb line, they phoned me and said 20mb will be possible. They said it would take atleast a month or two to get the 20mb service connected and I had to go purchase a PACE modem if we plan on moving in the next two months - thus that confirms it's a VDSL service and not a ADSL2+ 20mb sync.

Weird. I'm pretty sure my line stats are stable since the line still is able to get decent download speeds. Some nights are worse than others, but my speeds are usually good. Anything that's latency sensitive really gets nailed (streaming/gaming). So yeah, will be getting 9.9 meg download speeds from Steam but will have crazy local latency...

But I'll check my line tonight to see if my stats actually change but I don't think they do. Maybe your problem is actually different...

Re: VDSL. My line stats are also really good. When TelkomZA bumped me up to 10 meg, it shows that my line is actually capable of 24 meg. Still, you'd think they'd have ensured that the exchange was capable of handling all the extra bandwidth before bumping everyone up onto faster connections...

Routing you to another port. Does that resolve these congestion problems?

Lol. Currently, you are lucky to even to have a port on this exchange. I waited a week for a port to open up.

8.15 pings are still stable, but I'm waiting for 9/10 PM. That's how you know for sure what's going on.

i had my pingtest running since i got home from work and till now my ping is stable 25ms.
i hope it is fixed!

9:23 PM - Ping sitting around 20ms. Fixed = confirmed.

Maybe today was a special day at telkom... I just hope this is a long term fix, and not a short-term 1 day fix.
