Co.za downtime explained

Well to build a new machine.. a few hours maybe. To find a backup that does not exist Days.........

Considering the impact their downtime has caused one would expect some form of better communication - or are we expecting too much from them?

It may be time for Uniforum to implement a noticeboard which exists outside of their network, and while they're at it a mailing list would help.

I honestly think they are using data recovery and don't have backups, or are having to code certain things from scratch. That might explain the amount of time this is taking.

Just goes to show how important backups and contingency plans are.

Still down

WOW - this is ridiculous it's still down. thankfully we don't live in a competitive market or anything...

What trashy poor work from Uniforum. Epic fail. They really lack skills theres, this should have been resolved in hours, instead its being going on for almost a week.

Whoever the IT guy is. Fire him. He should be held accountable for gross negligence.

WTF!!!!!?????

This is staggeringly incompetent of Uniforum. Really, I think it is time that the management of the .co.za namespace goes out on tender and a more reputable, competent organisation that is up to the task should take the reins.

Try explaining that the domain registrar is down to a client that wants their domain registered yesterday.

I've been trying since this weekend and it's STILL down. Disgusting!!!

This is pissing me off now - we have 3 clients we need to transfer and another 2 waiting to launch their sites and still no co.za.

Browne however highlighted that authoritative DNS has remained up 100% of the time, and pointed out that this outage only affected new domain registrations, updates and deletions.
Browne is kidding right? Surely a registry exists for the purpose of registrations, updates and deletions or does he think that part does not matter?

He added that the co.za website functionality should be restored later today, and registration functionality should be restored sometime tomorrow, depending on the queued volumes of applications.
Yeah, right. They said this on Tuesday. It's Thursday and it's still down.

Considering their poor service and outdated systems wouldn't it be possible for someone else to step in and do a better job?

Just spoke to Zandile from Uniforum and "apparently" - this according to them their registration and update service is working but due to the load on their servers there is a backlog.
We have domain updates queued from Saturday / Sunday morning and still have not received confirmation from their system confirming receipt of the transfer.

Who else is thinking that its time for a petition to get the current administrators booted and the job handed over to another party which can make a difference?

Get one going, Ill sign it. Uniforum really need to come to the party.

What I would like to see:

1) A new system (something not designed in the early 90`s) , with a web interface and domain management system. Its really not that hard people.
2) Nicer staff. The account lady is fine but this people that answer the phone are dicks. They need an attitude adjustment.
3) Real redundancy and qualified staff managing the systems.

If Uniforum cant do that then I am all up for finding someone who can do it.

Yebo - I agree - it is time to get a new web based interface for registrations and management.
