CoCT`s crap solar policy.

I also saw this CoCt gem now:
  • "For Cape Town installations under CoCT you can only install Hybrid Solar Power Kits."

Can you prove this or at least give a link where it is stated that electricity thieves and indigents in the Cape are also paying the network charge?

Is it even legal to have different municipal taxes like this?

Go onto one of the other plans if you don't want to pay the fee. But then your per-unit cost increases. The price difference of which exactly balances out on the 0-600 block. (0.28 * 600 = R168).

Not seeing anything about solar users, except for what's in your head...

It's not required. That's why it's an optional checkbox on their product pages if you want them to register it for you. Registration is free.

I'm paying that fee currently anyway as Prepaid user and I'm ok with it. At least when I've had any service related issues at my home in the past, CoCT actually answered their phones and sent people out within a reasonable time frame.
When I install my panels, I'll be ok with paying R 180 / month to have Eskom as a backup in case it's needed.

Glad to see you've eventually grasped the fact that CoCT does not charge a solar registration fee.

Don`t make ill-informed statements again on my thread. I am not nitpicking with you, you are misleading people with false statements. Don`t do this.

I am also ok with paying R180 for that. I however am not happy to pay an additional installation/"what do you call it" fee, and I am not willing to pay their "solar tariffs" and pathetic feed-in price and "you can`t sell or generate more than you consume" rules.

As far as I can see it's Cape Town specific because other cities don't require you to register. As has been stated Cape Town is forward planning on registration because it knows the legislation requiring registration is coming and it wants to be ready for when it passes.

The registration fee however isn't being charged by the city, but by the installer for the time to do the admin to send to the city.

I don't see a problem... are you arguing the installer shouldn't be able to charge for their time to do that registration admin? Do you expect them to provide that service to you for free? I thought you were against socialism?

Socialism is only good when it doesn't cost him money.. otherwise he's all on board with the socialism train.

I see this as more red tape that is in the way of solar uptake. I expect to not being forced to pay for additional requirements just because it is CoCT. The entire CoCT solar policy is proudly socialist (self proclaimed!) and is a complete failure. People in the Cape are sitting in the dark and not buying solar systems.
