CoCT`s crap solar policy.

You seem to have been pretty wrong about the registration fee being something charged by CoCT.
They enforce it to be paid but do not take the fee themselves (if they are not corrupt), that is just a small technicality. I don`t really care who gets it, I care about why I have to pay that in CoCT but no-where else.

Somebody actually needs to dig deeper into this forced compliance certificate.

How do they enforce it to be paid?

You have yet to show any evidence that it is a registration that you can't do yourself.

These socialist rules are complicated. I read that a certificate of compliance must be issued and is checked for on registration, and that not all installers can do this. I am not sure what the fee is actually for, the work or the COC issuing, but the fee seems to be the same price as the fine for not registering.

It's not required. That's why it's an optional checkbox on their product pages if you want them to register it for you. Registration is free.
Tbf it's not REALLY optional. The city takes aerial photo's yearly - and if you're grid connected and not compliant you'll receive some MOERSE fines!

Isn't it just registration? It's not actual checks.

It sounds like it's just admin that you can do yourself, or you could try demanding someone else do the work for it for free like a good socialist?
CoCT actually came out and did an inspection for my SSEG reg. My installer was totally surprised - first one he'd ever had.

The registration is mandatory. What OP is harping on about is that you have to pay CoCT for this. You don't, you pay your installer for taking the time needed to do it for you. You can do it yourself for free if you wanted to. It's like paying a middle man to do something for you at home affairs...

They're not enforcing the payment of anything anything. You've asked your installer to do the work and that's the value your installer is putting on the work required.

By the sounds of it you could just do it yourself and CoCT won't charge you a dime.

So again, that's 1 thing you've been wrong about so far.

More mis-information from you. I want to know why this is required for CoCT only. And also, do you really think CoCT will allow everyone to issue their own compliance certificates? Think logically!

CoCT clearly states this to be a solar system registration fee and is compulsory. Why only CoCT? And why does CoCT not remove the connection levy on prepaid like all other municipalities?
Lol...CoCT is run like a business by the DA. Why would you need to pay a registration fee for getting off the electricity grid as much as possible, and using renewable energy to stay there, unless they wanted to make money out of something they shouldn't.
Next up: Your water tanks. Then your boreholes. Then possibly braai area as you're going to be using that a couple of times per week instead of electricity.

It is not me asking the installer to do it, it is CoCT forcing the registration and I suspect from what I`ve read that the registration needs a certificate of compliance.

They aren't actually complicated if you have a modicum of common sense.

So the CoC would be required regardless as you are fscking with your electrical installation and that is not a CoCT requirement but a national one.
And the registration requires the CoC, but so does your insurance company.. so are your insurance company evil socialists now as well?

Are you honestly going to try to tell me you would have solar installed and not get a CoC regardless?

If so you're a moron.

You can literally take that CoC (which you would be getting anyway) and just submit it with your registration for free, because (again this is the thing you were very very wrong about) the CoCT is not actually requesting a fee for this registration. Your installer is charging you that for the effort of doing that admin and submitting it on your behalf.

The water connection levy idea was 1st introduced during the drought when people bought Jojo tanks. It was called the "water tank levy" and the ANC took the DA to court. The DA lost and renamed it the "fixed basic charge" and latched it on to all non-indigent houses, Jojo tank or not.

You are the moron for not understanding that I want to know why for CoCT only. You are a moron for thinking I can issue my own COC without any costs.

You have to register it yes, but it can be done for free. It's not required by SolarAdvice store for R5750 when buying a kit from them, as the op claimed.

You're the moron for not realising you've already had this explained to you in this thread multiple times. You even got given a video explaining it if you were too lazy/socialist to read.

It's because nationally they're already moving to pass law to that effect. The CoCT is ahead of that curve (which again, they're not actually charging you for, which you were wrong about).

The reasoning at a national level for these registers is so that workers repairing infrastructure are aware of anything with the potential to feed back into the grid. (there's probbaly more than this, but who the heck knows, honestly it seems perfectly reasonable to me)

Precisely, makes all the sense in the world that workers can be forewarned that they're working on Infrastructure that has SSEG connected to it and to exercise a bit of additional caution. The registry could actually save lives.
