Coffin assault trial

I don't condone what they did, it was a stupid thing to do. But the sentences by the judge is ridiculous. I'm sure the SCA will reduce it.

There's also no evidence whatsoever of them intending to actually kill the guy, yet they've been found guilty of that in a court of law ...

Aside from the video of them saying they were going to kill him, acting like they were going to kill him and him pleading for his life?

Yeah. Guilty.

But 10+ years for both? :erm: They didn't kill anyone. Only hurt the poor pansy's feelings.

Sure... just hurt his feelings
A visibly shaken Mlotshwa is seen pleading for forgiveness. He shrieks and wails as he forced to place his arms in the coffin.

One of the accused is then seen shoving Mlotshwa inside‚ pushing closed the lid of the coffin and stomping on it with his boot as Mlotshwa tries to lift his head up.

The video was played twice in the packed courtroom H‚ leaving almost everyone in the gallery in tears.

LMAO, threatening to kill someone is not the same as killing them, pretending to kill someone is not the same as killing them. In the exact same vein threatening and pretending to kill someone is NOT the same as trying to actually kill them.

You need to ACTUALLY attempt to murder someone in order be guilty of attempted murder ... it's kinda right there in the name of the charge :crylaugh:

Him pleading for his life just makes him gullible, stupid or a wuss. F-all to do with attempted murder.

Dude I know how terrible it sounds. But the charges don't fit the actions. Hell you get way more serious assault cases with much lighter sentencing. This one just triggers you more so for some reason.

Yeah, never mind the "do you want to die quickly or slowly" part. Have these people not watched the video? The oke looks like he is terrified. I'm not saying the sentence is deserved but they are certainly scumbags that deserve punishment.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised the defenders of sexual predators will also defend convicted felons because they look the same, Identity politics at its best.

Heard the Judge messed up with the sentencing suspending part of it for 8 years where the maximum is 5 year suspension or less.

This judge is making it soooo easy for the appeals court :D

Any judge that thinks the sentences he handed down is justifiable, can't be too bright...

Has anyone disputed that bit at all in this thread? From what I can see there's 100% agreement they deserve punishment for their vile actions.

There was no attempted murder though, the judge deserves punishment too for her actions.

What they did was insane too so perhaps the sentence is apt.

You are a special kind of stupid if you think 11 year sentence is justified for what they did. Yet murderers get 8 years on average in some special cases 6 years...

Just to be clear, what people are sentenced for != what they get. Murder is meant to get 15 years minimum, but we all know that isn't the case. Especially with our completely non-biased and impartial parole board.

Just to play the devil's advocate, maybe the judge was aware of the fact that people get parole after a laughably short amount of time in this country. Thus it she might have had an idea of 5 years or so, knowing the sumbags will get out after than.

Perhaps the judge wants to send a message to other insane racists that such behaviour is not tolerated in this country. Perhaps the issue is not that their sentence is too harsh but that the other sentences, for murder, for example, tend to be too lenient.
I would like a source indicating that the average sentence for murder is only 8 years. People have been put in prison for longer than that for smoking dagga.

Then perhaps the judge should actually think about setting a precedent in a case where people are actually hurt for being the wrong color. Like in a home invasion where a 15 year old girl is shot 9 times. You can't tell me that wasn't a hate crime, but if caught the perps wouldn't even get as long as these 2 when they inflicted suffering that was incomparable.

The fitness of this judge to hold office should be investigated.

If they are caught I have no doubt they will get life sentences...

People here are saying sentences are short for murder but a simple search for murder sentences in SA brings up life sentence after life sentence

I have all the doubt in the world. Their crime won't even be called a hate crime because it's black on white. This entire thing wasn't actually about the people involved from the beginning, it was white doing it to black therefor racist. It was a case of vigilante justice, the same justice that have black people burning people alive, burning down homes, and they get away with it, but because these 2 morons decided to film it they are being punished for something that happens in communities around South Africa on a daily basis.

I never noticed there are no black people in prison, interesting
