Cold callers to get the cold shoulder

They always call from private numbers, so I installed CallFilter on my android phone. No more unwanted "private" calls.

Wish I could do this on my landline.

Opt-In is useless anyway. Once you put your details in you can not modify them ever again.

Got a 3g modem recently and the amount of sms's and missed calls from spammers are insane.

Jip. These stupid marketing companies are annoying. I've just moved from one bank to another and sudenly all the othe banks phone me and want to give me credit cards and stuff, AFTER i spoke to them first! And the only place where my nr was given was at the new bank!

Telkom seem to do a lot of cold calling themselves.

Yup, on the day I logged an install request with Telkom I started getting my daily call from Telkom trying to sell me other stuff. The call centre ppl don't seem concerned as I logged a call to them for one service, this apparently means I want to hear about all their other crap.

The irony is Telkom still hasn't been able to arrange an install date for the thing I actually DO want

Their loss; they need to send a vehicle out.

If it was not for this, I would not have answered a private number... Thinking of contacting them and letting them know that they do not need to phone if they are phoning from a "Private number". They can just send out the armed response immediately. Every time. Hopefully it will force them to change.

Its awesome to say that you can just opt out the communication loop by simply sending an sms, but when the sms becomes free then I might consider the whole approach. I am currently recieving about 10 sms a day either try to sell or giving me information that I have won something. And if they phone me about a free phone ..... omg.... seriously!!!! what is free..

I try not answer private numbers... So I will be screwed when they phone to tell me my place has been broken into. Why they cant just have the number exposed. But if you ask they will say they do this probably for security purposes.

If my family did this I would never be able to phone them.
I only call people from my work phone (I make very few calls, and none from my cellphone to save money) and unfortunately we have a large IP-based internal phone network that is configured to hide our direct line number when we make outgoing calls. So when I call a friend or family member from my office phone they see "Private Number" on their phones.

I've asked my work to make my direct line visible when I make an outgoing call but they say no.
Oh well.

I have a better solution. Answer it, put it on mute and speakerphone and let them waste their money on the phone call

It is not the money I try to waste, it is the call center agent time that I take up, 10 mins on mute means the agent is not free to call anynone else.
