That's very odd DFantom... I'm in Randpark Ridge and I get full signal? Then again, Randpark Ridge is HUGE.

Whereabouts in RR are you? I'm just off Molope Road.

What I did notice is that the signal gets weaker exponentially as you move away from the highway (and the tower, which is in Northcliff) I get full signal on one side of my house, and I struggle to get two lights on the other side.

Very odd.

DFantom give me a call in the morning and ill try my best to help you out, if its a signal problem I cant do much but I will try :)

Dylan

TheYak, thats where it's odd I have full signal almost constantly when I have the disconnections.

Sihan, thanks for that. It's been stable now for around 18hours (best it's been in around 3 weeks). Next time I have a problem I will give you a call.

Sihen, say thanx for me to Thato for keeping his word, that he's gonna call me when the Soweto Base station is up and running after being disconnected for 3 bloody days . Unfortunately wasnt able to answer his call.

I like to thank WBS for having these thing (iburst) for it seems Soweto is no longer get cut out and the connection is good also.

mhhh...
Guess what it rained today (02-01-05)... and I can't connect. Obviously this post didn't help me.

I am in the Nortchcliff area and up to date received a 100% signal, speed up to +/- 1000 kb/s.

This afternoon I lost my signal as it start to rain. The helpdesk told me that they have send a Technician out to fix the problem.

After returning from work at 21H30 the problem was still not fixed. By this time the helpdesk is closed.

Signal: 0% to 5%.
Try to connect with a 5% signal and get an error:676 - phone line is busy.

I had to dig out my sentech mywireless to get back onto the internet.

Are we going to experience this problem every time when there is a thunderstorm?

Andre.

This is quite odd...

We had hail and a massive storm yesterday afternoon, and I was happily surfing away... no problems whatsoever.

I connect to Northcliff.

Off most of the day myself, until about 15h15 odd.
Support center call 1 (at about 8h00) - Support said: Roodepoort Tower Down For Maintainence, should be up at 10
Support center call 2 (at about 10h30) - Support said: Roodepoort Tower Down, not scheduled and cause unknown, Up by Lunch Time
Support center call 2 (at about 14h00) - Support said: Roodepoort Tower hit by lightning, no ETA.

How is Jabulani related to Northcliff? Northcliff is far away from Soweto, well I can understand abt Roodepoort bcos a lightning strike in that area can be felt in Soweto.

Quite Odd..!

Just had a storm come through at 6pm (3/1/5) and my speed jumped from 70-80 kb which I have been getting for last 2 months to 260 kb ! It only lasted while doing the speed test (tcpiq)

I am in a bad spot in Paulshof, and don't seem to be getting the same speeds advertised on this forum, but got hopeful for a second!

How do I establish which tower I am connected to?

Has WBS posted info on the time-scale for new tower roll outs?

My signal was off since this morning and the helpdesk said that they are working on the northcliff tower. Just got home and everthing is back to normal.

From UUNET the line goes to Northcliff then Roodeport from there it foes to Jabulani, so basically if the link between UUNET and Northcliff is down its going to affect Northcliff, Roodeport and Jabulani.

I have a bit of a concern with the support centre, my internet has not worked since late Sunday afternoon, I have spoken to the support guys more than once already, each time the reply is "we are working on it" anyways my patience ran out again as I approach the 48 hrs without Internet mark. So I called again, unfortunately I got portia on the her side with her scripted "all the towers are fine on the screen" After convinving her to find out what is going on she ran off to check and came back, "this is the first time we are hearing about a problem on forest hill". What really worries me about this is that is not the first time I mentioned it and that the Helpdesk is not very clued up, in particular Portia.

I dont like the idea that I was merely given an answer to get me off the phone "so to speak"

WBS seriously needs to look at getting trained people on the Helpdesk, not so much IT but more common sense & customer service. I dont see why I need to escalate every problem to the senior staff members myself. These problems should be resolved internally without my input, I'm not paid to solve WBS problems.

My experiences with the helpdesk have been up & down, sadly though it mostly bad, from poor turnaround times to just not getting back to a person at all, and I dont consider high volumes a valid excuse for poor service, WBS made the desicion to advertise on the radio, they should have been prepared for the onslaught. Before the adverts things with the helpdesk went slightly better.

Anyways, instead of fighting with WBS I thought I would just post the experience here as I have done with my compliments for them aswell.

I've been with i-Burst for almost a month now; connected since 10 Dec.

My compliments from the word go. Online application, delivery of modem same day. When I complained that there was no manual or driver CD [over the telephone], I got a fantastic response, and an offer to deliver that too - didn't need it though, as it's all available on the 'net.

Speed has been good [I get a 50 - 60% signal strength on ave], and uptime extremely acceptable - I'm online continuously for days at a time [in Midrand, close to VodaWorld]. Not sure which base station I'm connecting to, but it's only been down once that I've seen.

As a note to management about caps - my usage over a week or so was 4GB; streaming 64k radio for a couple or hours, a few hours of P2P to test the speed, and 2 ISOs. I'm not the addict you may think I am, but it's amazing how fast 3 GB gets used up. It will be interesting to see how this all shapes out in March. Until then, keep it up. So far, so good.

Guys there was a problem with lightning the other day and some towers where hit, this problem has been resolved, hope you all happy again.

Sihen, is there ANY way that you guys can maybe post something here on MyADSL to let us know if something like that happens? It's very frustrating to just be left in the dark... :(
