Actually no, before my time, what happened?
In a nutshell, PROASM was acting much as Shaun did, despite being based in Durbs and responsible only for that area. This continued until he was summoned to Head Office, where he was presumably told in no uncertain terms that his postings did not reflect positively on Sucktech, and he did not represent Sucktech management (go figure?!). Resulted in much sympathy from this forum, and we 'backed off' to some extent, so that his job was not placed in jeopardy. Subsequent to this we had the CUG saga, which merely reinforced the opinions of many on this forum, of Sucktech. TheRodent can fill you in on that debacle...

Well, with all the people sitting there (10+), the CUG outweighed everyone @ Sentech's side IQ by an average of 1 billion

Come now noone.
Tell us something we did not know.........................

I doubt it will sell. You want to know what DOES sell? Sex...

So if you're married, tell your wife you need to make a serious commitment (don't tell her what it is, she'll believe the "for better or for worse, just say yes!" argument) Then proceed to record your adventures and publish them online.

Sell it, and make millions.

Hi yesterday my speed OK, downloads came down at 50Kb/s so life was good. Checked the mtu in ipcop and it was running at 1432 This morning the connection sucks and the mtu is down to 1352, it seems that there is a direct corilation between our speed problems and wbs f@$&^%$ with the mtu's on their towers. PLEASE STOP.

I am in Weltevredenpark so I connect to Northcliff. I have 100% signal all of the time. IPcop with 20m ethernet flylead to UTD.

I get a similar problem from time to time. Originally, I thought they were changing MTU, but they weren't. What you describe is not WBS messing with the MTU's but rather you being switched to another base station. It appears that some BS's are running on 1352, and others on 1432. Why they've configured them differently is anybody's guess.

You may simply have found that you were switched to Roodeport BS.

On the other hand maybe they have made a global switch to 1352, I will check when I get home for lunch.

Forgot to check it yesterday lunch time - doing it now. However, I'm going to record this here, because I'm now getting an MTU of 1352 instead of 1432. I'm also getting the mystery server 172.16.0.101 instead of the regular 196.30.31.100. Just wish I had a certain way of knowing which BS I'm now on.

Why would you want to do that, when you can "make the best of it yourself" ?

Change settings?

Hello everybody out there.

I am quite new in SA, quite new in this forum and quite new with the iburst thing. I already signed up at WBS and have a PCMCIA modem. I live in Hyde Park.

I face as well some problems with my modem: download and upload speed is extremly poor caused by many breaks during down-/uploading, means that the data stream isn't steadily but has many breaks lasting more or less seconds. The speed is even worse than with an analogue modem - sometimes better, sometimes worse. Interesting is if I open more browser windows and download different webpages at the same time it seems to work a bit better. Even if I start visiting another webpages during a mentioned break it is possible to interrupt the break.

My question now is: is there anything I can do to the settings of my computer (Win 2000) to get rid of this or is this the "normal" ibust-speed I have to deal with??? I already tried Dr TCP but don't know exactly what settings I have to make especially because my Ethernet modem is listed as well in Dr. TCP. Is there maybe a ressource trouble with the Ethernet modem and the iburst modem?

Of course I already tried to connect the ibust helpdesk but this didn't really help...

Thank you for your answers.

no, thats just fine tunes packet sizes etc to squeeze that little bit of extra juice out of your connection. A few people have had the problem you have and they have come up with a cool solution, all you do is constantly ping www.iburst.co.za, so assuming you're in windows go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt and then type ping -t www.iburst.co.za
then keep that running the whole time.
