Confusing WebAfrica post about 10Mbps speeds

cavedog: I agree with you, they shouldnt be advertising they are South Africa's first to offer it. I hadnt read the article and was assuming that they were referring to their accounts.


I actually think that they are so desperate to get back the customers that they have lost, that they are willing to offer something which does not exist.

I do apologise for my first post. I did not read the article and shouldnt have given my opinion without knowing the facts.

We can give you up to 10mbit right now. If your exchange supports it.
The same way we can give you up to 4mbit, if your exchange supports it.

Right now we have over 3000 active 10mbit connections.

WaCliff: firslty, 10mb adsl has not been officially launched to the public. It is still on trial. The launch will most likely only happen on June 1st. You cannot offer a service you have no control over. the 3000 active 10mbs clients you are referring to, are probably the ones that are on the trial.

Web Africa is not responsible for line speeds. thats telkoms job.

secondly. I really doubt you have 3000 clients.... more like 3.

thirdly: Just because an exchange may support 10mb, doesnt mean that ADSL2+ is activated on those exchanges. My exchange most probably DOES support ADSL2+, but it doesnt mean it is active. Only the trial users have an activated ADSL2+ exchange. Web Africa, has no authority to get telkom to activate the ADSL2+ on my exchange. Telkom will decide when to do that.

Im sorry, but your company is misleading its users.
 
To announce publicly that Web Africa is the first to offer 10mb adsl is ridiculous and perhaps some1 should lodge a complaint to the ASA. You are not the first. TELKOM IS!
 
3000 is a bit hectic I must say. I mean the do you have 8Mbit thread is like 5-10 people reporting these speed. You wanna tell me that 3000 people are reporting10Mbit speeds. I can't believe it.

Telkom hasn't announced it. We have, because we're able to provide it to those on the enabled exchanges.

I can assure you, there are 3000 users currently getting 10mbit ADSL speeds from Web Africa.
 
I swear people these days over analyze and read into things that's not there.


All this tells advert tells me is, WebAfrica -themselves- have the infrastructure ready/capable of allowing these speeds. People forget "the public" is the BOTTOM of the food chain, i'm sure Telkom/SAIX/Whoever has sorted these things out with the ISPs -first- , then the big Businesses and THEN "the public" . I mean, be realistic here, is anyone thinking Telkom will launch 10 Mbps to the public without giving the ISPs a "head start" ? huh?

So further as to the "first" , again , maybe there's some back-bone setup / linkup / configuration required from the ISP <--> Telkom to accomodate 10 Mbps upstream and downstream and maybe WA was first with -that- ? I'm pretty sure , resellers have no control over this, hence why we don't hear from them on this issue. Afrihost actually have an uncapped package for 8 MB/s with a "coming soon" disclaimer....now why it is 8 MB/s and not 10 MB/s ? Is it maybe because that is the only thing IS has to offer them and that IS is not ready yet?

As for the misleadingness, again, uncapped packages in the market are all speed restricted. WA does not seem to offer uncapped, how do you think they are going to compete? Simple : Remind everyone that on a capped package you can get maximum speed and this maximum speed [assumingly on WA's end] is 10 MB/s . I don't see the issue here, it's a valid point since i have experienced this precise issue with being on a 4 MB/s line and having 256 kbps uncapped ....you really take note of speed limitations on packages.

So in other words you are saying that you can provide it to the users that are currently on the trial?

Well if thats the case, I hate to break it to you but Telkom are the first to provide it to the users on trial NOT WEBAFRICA.

A complete and utter waste of time talking to a brick wall...

Your comment is so irrelevant.....

1. People that were on the 10Mbit trial have already reported HIGH speeds on IS based accounts. So for Webafrica to mention they are the first is a blatand lie!
2. Uncapped offerings has limits to the speeds that can be achieved. I bet If I take a 1GB IS/Telkom/Neology/Mweb account I would get the exact same speeds as compared to Webafrica. So for Webafrica to create a perception that their service is far more superior than others is False too.
 
Facts are facts: We can offer some of our customers up to 10mbit, and are currently doing so. Will post some speed results :)

Necromancer: Take a deep breath... Relax... Yes we need to update the blog to rather reflect "SA first", instead of "WA first", as other ISP's may also have this - oversight on our behalf.
 
But waroop, do fail to see the error? you are NOT SA's first, Telkom is! do you not understand that?

Edit: You cannot go around telling the country that you are the first to provide south africa with 10mbs because you are not. Telkom is the first operator to launch the 10mbs service. Its THEIR fscking service!

How come none of those 3,000 10Mb/s users are on MyBB?

You would think that they would want to brag here and post their speedtest.net results.

My point exactly! You want to tell me that those 3000 customers do not know about mybb or don't want to point out that they can download 1mb/s? I can't believe it.......
