Connected but no throughput

Posted in another thread, but nonetheless, i'm having the same problem :(
Sandhurst, Sandton area if it helps.

Cyan light, HSPA+ connection, no throughput

Got up this morning, router says I was disconnected sometime last night 23h00. Was connected since then but no data comes through. Nslookups all work and I can ping sites on IP address or webaddress. For what it's worth, a tracert gives

Tracing route to www.amazon.co.uk [178.236.4.29]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

4 93 ms * * 41.48.23.13

etc. etc. etc.

I'm still having the problem of connected but zero throughput. I can safely say that this problem is now out of hand. Its been like this since Tuesday Randburg Area on the HSPA+ network.
So when will this be resolved Cellc??

+1, cellc also make no effort to return customer queries either.

Same thing here, i.e. since Tuesday and in Randburg. Iconically tested yesterday at Cresta Cell C and it was fine.

Luckily I have another modem (Huawei E585) for wireless and it is handling things ok, but it is at 7.2 max so I have help.

Am on the line with Cell C but getting no help. They are denying there is a problem.

same here....doubt the problem is area specific, its a general network problem.....connections are stable for a solid 2 hours on average before a reboot is required. this becomes really frustrating with speedstick and router combination. rebooting the router simply does not help, you are often required to switch off router entirely or physically remove/insert speedstick.....

I've noticed this problem is more frequent when connection is left idle. routers (maybe mine only - Air3G) does not reconnect once this problem occurs. it fails horribly when trying to reconnect. surprisingly it reconnects fine with a Vodacom data sim if the connection drops...strange...

Yea - Randpark Ridge and past few days as well :/

I can't even use the remainder of my cap and run at between 128kbps and 512kbps download constantly

Just to be clear then, your connection is fine then after about 2 hours traffic stops and you are forced to power cycle the router to reconnect?

When this happens:
Can you still access www.cellc.co.za?
Does DNS resolution still work? (e.g. 'nslookup google.co.za')
Are you able to ping or open any sites by IP address?
A couple of examples:
http://41.72.143.60 (www.cellc.co.za)
http://41.203.21.137 (mybroadband.co.za)
The above two sites don't end up at the normal pages, but you should see 'Another Cell C page - coming soon' and 'It works!'.
http://74.125.230.80 - http://74.125.230.84 (google.co.za)

Also run 'ipconfig /all' and take note of your DNS settings.

Are you able to ping or open any sites by IP address?

PING - Sometimes Yes and No
OPEN SITES - Barely, painfully slow, websites stop loading halfway through

Mine has done this since day 1. Connect open a site it works, open another site and 0 data throughput. Still stays connected however, running a ping test reveals about 95% packet loss, short bursts of packets make it through every 10 minutes or so.

I have not once been able to use up my cap. At months end I normally sit with about 4gb that just go down the drain.

This is from Brooklyn Pretoria as well as Parkview Johannesburg

This morning AGAIN, still connected but no throughput. Nslookups and pings work fine.
Tracert times out again at various places.

I have this for the last 2 weeks. Disconnect and quickly connect and one can surf, but if you stop...its gone again.

I didn't have to reconnect to the "Woooooosh" network or perhaps they were doing upgrades but noticed the service in Johannesburg is more stable... The rest of the cities need to wait for a patch, going to test my faulty modem and see if it doesnt disconnect.

I've got the new white ZTE MF190 modem (2gig package) and I'm having serious 3G issues. It worked fine the first day but the last two days have been intermittent service. When its working perfectly, it says its connected to either HSPA or sometimes HSDPA. When I lose throughput, and the setting in the Cell C client is on Automatic, it says that I'm connected to UMTS. Sometimes it then takes forever to disconnect and connect and sometimes can't even connect (error message is something along the lines of "connection refused by remote host"). I also can't check my account balance through the client. Note: it doesn't fall back onto EDGE either. If I force the connection on UMTS, same problem. If I force the connection on GSM, there's a connection to EDGE and there's no problems with throughput but obviously its EDGE speeds, which is disappointing. It may be location/cell tower specific - it worked fine at UP yesterday morning but not at home in Colbyn. Or it could be time specific, since, on Wednesday I noticed degraded speeds on HSPA around 4pm-5pm and then no throughput at night. Same story yesterday. I'm waiting to see if it will start working again this afternoon. Maybe my 3G reception just isn't very good but I can't verify that since mdma doesn't support this modem yet and it also doesn't explain why it has been working before (signal strength in the cell c client ranges between 3 and 4 bars out of 5). Does anyone else have the same issue? Does anyone know how to test 3G signal strength without mdma or hyperterminal since those don't seem to work?

Same issue for me in Nortcliff, it is bloody irritating.

Been trying to update my iPhone (600MB odd download which is non-resumable).
Got to 6MB, then no throughput.
Got to 350MB, then no throughput.

Each time I start from 0, so ended up wasting a lot of data.

sorry to hear this but ever since the network upgrade on 3rd March, my connection seems stable. (touch wood) That upgrade resolved most of my issues however the speeds could be better..im actually happy with my 2mbps to be honest so no complaints for now....... possibly your nearest tower isnt patched? Email [email protected] and pray they return your call.....i was lucky enough for them to return my call within 1 week....and......dont waste your time with the call centre, its broken....you'll only end up with more frustration....

I have found that over the last two weeks or so my connection is absolutely useless. I have the E1820 on the 5GB package, but I am currently connected with a Vodacom SIM card just so that I can function and run my business. My signal strength is 95% on HSPA+, but there is virtually no throughput. This is in the Pietermaritzburg area.

All I can say is "ADSL, here I come..."
