Connecting AP to Mega 100WR Router

Hello People,

I am a noob when it comes to anything network related and have a situation that I cannot resolve.

I connect to the internet at the office via ADSL using a Telkom Mega Router. At the moment, the offices on the far end experience little to no connectivity. I was told to install an AP as a repeater and have a level one WAP-0003 Access Point that is not in use.

How do I connect these up to provide a wireless signal to the offices at the far end of the building.

I am not sure what details to provide to make this easier and would rather just get some1 in to do the setup for me but management dont agree (trying to save $$$).

Basically, how should I set the Level One AP to talk to the Telkom Router?
Would the PC's/Laptops at the far end connect to the Level One AP meaning it would have to have a different SSID?
Should any settings be changed on the ADSL Router (Telkom Mega)?

Any assistance would be appreciated, even a lin to some reading material to help me understand this better.

I am not familiar with the LevelOne.

You can try and connect the AP to the Telkom Mega using wireless but that's going to be a headache. Put in a cable to where you want the AP.

Give the AP a (fixed) IP in the range of the network. Set the SSID up on the AP, I would suggest a different one to the Mega. Configure the AP to not be a DHCP server.

You don't have to do any extra settings on the Telkom Mega.

And that's about it.

Thanks T-Man, it worked first try. I am able to get all the machines/laptops to connect.

I gave the AP its own SSID and the machines that are close to that AP are connecting to it instead of the Mega Router.

Is it normal for speeds to be down after all is connected. I am now getting slower than usual speed across the network.

There are more devices on the network now so it could be a bit slower. I suspect the Mega only has 'hub' functionality and not 'switch' functionality.

Do a speed test from a wired device to another wired device, maybe plug a laptop in place of the AP for test purposes. Also check that the two APs are running on different channels.

I have a similar question, but not sure if I must start a new post. I have the Telkom Duoplus 300 wifi/router and need to know how to setup to connect wirelessly to a AP in annother area to give that area Internet and connection to wifi printer.
If there is someone in cape town who could give me some advice I would be very grateful.
