@PBCool support has logged the issue with Octotel now. Let's see what they make of this, not holding my breath though.

Do you have any explanation as to why that Randburg server is performing so much better than the others? It's truly odd as the routes look almost identical to the Joburg one except for the last 2 hops.

@PBCool Will CoolIdeas not be an ISP on the Zoom fibre network anymore. We are getting fibre now in my area of which Zoom and Openserve are the FNO's. I'm currently deciding between the 2 with Zoom Fibre having much better deals.

Nope we will be leaving Zoom unfortunately as they want to change their terms and we're not comfortable with what they are proposing.

And yes, the Randburg server is consistently giving me 800-900Mbps results.

I just got the highest speed I've ever seen on my line to that server now:

Doesn't make much sense, only thing I can think of is that that version of the speedtest server is different and manages loss better.

If I recall your issue wasn't just speedtests but accessing stuff for work in JHB?

No, I don't have issues accessing things it's the speed that has always been an issue. And as a lot of popular services are hosted in Joburg it frustrates me that it's slow for no good reason.

I've just run two single-threaded speedtests, one to the Randburg and one to JHB. I'll upload these and share them in the ticket.

Out of curiosity I ran packet length stats on the two:

Every single Speedtest server that isn't in Cape Town or International. Except now for this weird Randburg anomaly.

If you want I can spin up an AWS or Azure instance and put some test files on it but it's not going to be any different to the Speedtest results.

Yeah I am aware around the speedtest thing but which alternative service isn't performing for you in JHB?
 
Seems quad9 also struggling in CPT with the outage.

After another day of the Octofail disconnect issue I had a look to see whether my assumption that I'm not covered by Openserve is correct - seems I was right (red dot is my erf) although the lack of coverage seems arbitrary to me (as a non-techie). Based on the attached coverage map, is there any chance that I'd be able to switch over to Openserve?

Looks like my house's MTN coverage. :D My toilet is in the green part though.
