Cops caught on camera 'executing' criminal (WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT)

I understand most of you don't like criminals... who does?
But suggesting that it's okay for policemen to execute people in the streets? What is wrong with you :erm:

I can understand the emotional response of some given the crime situation in SA, but execution is unacceptable. That is, if you hope SA will somehow not degenerate into total chaos.

Any support expressed for a cop doing this in any circumstance will encourage the slide of the police force into a mafia organisation, such as the one operating in a country in Asia I just spent more than a decade in. They'll rue the day they cheered this on. Once established such a force is near impossible to eradicate.

What goes around comes around.

All that before we even consider the morality of it.

Thus far, corruption is a big problem, even if by world standards it is still corruption-lite. Cheer this type of thing on and you aint seen nothing yet.

Just because Oscar can get away with it doesn't mean to say they all do

We talking about the probability of cop killers getting back on the streets due to inept incarceration or overflowing jails. If theres a chance to take them out then so be it.

I see the cops have been suspended. Other cops will be reading this thinking its safer for them to allow perps to commit the crime and get away. Let insurance pay for stolen property and allow families to naturally grieve for dead and raped loved ones.

As a cop not worth risking your life and career in favor of a suspension.

What is the probability?

And where does it stop once you start turning a blind eye to rogue cops?

Kill squads?

Why not just shut down the justice system and let the police be the judge, should made life really interesting.

The judicial system has not been shut down? 6 percent conviction rate on violent crime. Very much shut down.

Firstly, Shooting an unarmed / disarmed person is legally wrong. I expect police to uphold the law because we pay them to do just that. Secondly, I did not see the police being cautious and proficient in their use of their weapons. I think that they were lucky in their shooting of this criminal. It could have been a lot worse. Think of innocent bystanders being killed in this mess. Thirdly, I do believe that violence is only met with violence. The more aggression that police show criminals is shown in return. Police are being slaughtered by thieves more and more. Fourth, How can you have a constitution which values all human life but wish a criminal dead? Something has to change. Maybe its the constitution.

I read the first two pages and gave up...

Has your experiences in SA really made you guys that morally deficient- yes DEFICIENT- South Africans are amongst nationalities that thank God for every second thing they get, but you have absolutely no moral values, none. When you condone MURDER, whatever the circumstances, then you are lower than the criminal that has been executed, and lower than the thug policeman that murdered the criminal.

They already did much more than they needed to, they had the opportunity to arrest him, yet they chose to execute the guy...and they do it because of worse thugs (yes because of your values) on forums and in society that condone murder. You are nothing better than the criminal who shot at the police and nothing better than the thugs who murdered him.

Your society is imploding around you because of your attitude, not because of the crime rate.

You are welcome...

Read the first 20 posts then skipped the rest. Was it mentioned why the dude in the OP opened fire on the cops? It sounds like something out of a movie and seems like he was out for revenge. Perhaps they are dirty cops and wronged someone he knew?

You've been watching too many movies.

What we have learnt so far:

Police are corrupt and those murdering police are doing society a favour. I feel morally renewed, thank you.

Really?

Four cops to appear for 'executing' suspect

Naledi Shange, News24

Johannesburg - The four police officers linked to the killing of a suspected criminal in cold blood were expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The group would spend the night behind bars at the same police station where they had served.

IPID, which is the watchdog of police officers, said it did not believe this would pose as a security risk.

The three men and single female officer were arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate and were officially charged with murder on Monday.

IPID spokesperson Grace Langa said the group was aware that they would be arrested and had arrived at the police station on their off day to hand themselves over.

Pictures of the four accused showed them dressed in civilian clothing as they were booked in at the station's charge office.

Meanwhile, colleagues of the four officers peered at the small media contingent gathered at the gate of the police station.

The communication officer of the station remained mum about the arrest and referred all questions to IPID.

The four officers were implicated in the murder of Khulekani Mpanza who was killed on October 19.

The Sunday Times reported at the weekend it had closed circuit television (CCTV) footage of Mpanza being shot in the arm while running away after he allegedly fired shots at a police van.

He drops his firearm and falls on the pavement where a policeman allegedly shoots him. Another policeman allegedly approaches Mpanza and kicks him.

Then another shot - suspected to the head - is fired and he is dead.

There were no reports of Mpanza injuring anyone during his attempted escape.

Eyewitness tells of Krugersdorp 'execution'

Naledi Shange, News24

Johannesburg - A man employed at a bottle store in Lewisham, Krugersdorp, said he asked Khulekani Mpanza what the police activity a few metres behind him was all about moments before Mpanza was shot dead.

Thapelo Segatso said Mpanza was walking very fast on foot in the opposite direction of where police were searching a Toyota Conquest.

"It seemed like he was holding a phone. I asked him what was happening up there," said Segatso.

"He didn't say anything. Instead he pulled a gun and started shooting at the police who were now following behind him."

The bottle store worker ducked and went for cover as police and Mpanza exchanged fire.

'Checking for cameras'

Segatso's colleague, Keagen Goncalves said the police officers were in fact on the scene because they had called them.

Goncalves said they had noticed Mpanza and a gang of other men acting suspiciously on October 19.

They noticed two Toyota Conquest vehicles - one was silver and the other was white.

"They parked outside the shop and it seemed like there were different guys going into different stores. There were around eight of them. They were entering the shops and it seemed like they were checking for cameras," said Goncalves.

Two of the eight men entered the bottle store where Goncalves and Segatso worked. They bought a two litre cooldrink but they could be seen looking around the shop, trying to spot the cameras.

"We made the call to the police because at around this time, criminals like to [take] chances," Goncalves said, referring to crimes committed around the festive season.

The police arrived shortly afterwards and Goncalves said they told them that the men travelling in the vehicles had made their way around the corner.

"The police called for backup and went up to search for the guys," said Goncalves.

Exchanged fire

A short while later, they saw Mpanza come down the road. He and the police then exchanged fire.

Some of the bullet holes hit a nearby shop causing some damage.

Mpanza had run a short distance before he was eventually shot and killed.

He was shot outside an IT company which had several cameras placed around the entrance.

This meant Mpanza's last moments were captured on camera.

In the video footage, the police are seen shooting at him as a civilian jumps into a delivery vehicle, banging the door behind him.

The first shot seemingly hit Mpanza on the hand, forcing him to drop his weapon.

As he lay on the ground, one policeman is seen coming forward and he fires another shot at Mpanza. This shot reportedly hit Mpanza in the head, killing him.

Another officer is then seen moving towards the wounded Mpanza and he kicks him.

On Monday, the scene where Mpanza had been shot dead had been cleared. Only the remnants of what seemed like chalk markings remained at the scene.

It had since been established that Mpanza's gun had been stolen from a security guard in Soweto.

Officers arrested

Meanwhile, the four police officers who were allegedly at the scene of the crime have since been arrested. They will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court where they will face a charge of murder.

Goncalves said he did not feel the police acted inappropriately when they shot and killed Mpanza.

"They never had a chance to search the guy after hitting him. No one knew whether he still had another weapon on him and there was a civilian there," he said.

Meanwhile, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza said one person had been taken in for questioning following the incident.

"He was later released," said Kweza, adding that the man had not been charged.

The four are presently in custody and have since been served with notices of intention to suspend them.
