Cosatu considers Vodacom boycott

So what does COSATU say about Telkom Media, which only a few weeks ago was set to close its doors, was thrown a lifeline through the sale of Telkom’s 75% controlling stake to the Chinese firm Shenzhen Media South Africa?
 
well, all Vodacom had to do now, is undercut all the other cellular companies, and then let the people of south africa decide if they want to boycot... Money talks, Bullsh:t walks!

The DOC OK'd the deal 'before' the new regime took over. They are still the same people that rubber stamped the deal, although there is a new political head. Political pressure from the current regime forced the opportunistic 'Regulator' to make a U-turn together with the alliance 'union', which don't represent any of the workers which they claim to be 'protecting'.
 
cosatu is detached from reality. their members must hold them accountable for this blatant waste of their membership fees on questionable urgent high court applications.

they must instead ask the anc why they spent some R20mil buying chinese campaign t-shirts. i thought everyone was supposed to "buy local," or do they confuse chinatown and china?
 
Boycott Voda? BetU most Cosatu members operate affirmatively shopped cellphones via affirmatively shopped SIMs funded by affirmatively shopped ZARs - so where is the boycott motivation?

I'd would hazard a guess that most of COSATU's members are low-income wage earners who use prepaid instead of contract.

They're just angry cause if the government doesn't own anything of Vodacom, then they can't get any of the profits from it...

someone please tell me what are the implications of vodacoms listing on the JSE?
is it good for us consumers- i mean people like me who are only interested in cheaper,faster internet? i dont have shares in any company.
just use simple language.
why is Cosatu & ICASA against their listing?
why did they do it in the frist place? Whats the wisdom of this action and how does it affect us consumers with Seacom becoming active in the next few months?
 
Like anyone who has ever had to work with Telkom would see less control by South Africans (who havent been chosen based on knowledge, skills, common sense) as a bad thing! Give the brits telkom as well!

and form another perspective the actions severely hurt SA`s investment image so less international companies would invest here considering the goverments random interference.

When they are at work they use their employer's phone, otherwise they use the 'please cal me' system. Now they will have to change it to 'please call me but not from a vodacom phone'.

The sad thing is that these imbeciles have no idea what damage they are causing to our economy.

Doesn't Vodacom issue them their own phones? Seem to remember something in the news about that.

Simply put, listing is merely a way to raise capital. One can do it privately or privately. Publicly being listing on a stock exchange. Privately being selling a stake of your company to private investors or by taking on debt.

It is definitely a good thing for SA consumers. Ordinary citizens will now have more of a say in Vodacom, as shareholders. That is the theory, but not necessarily the practice though. There are plenty of other reasons why this move is a good one...

Damn straight, and that's how we want it. Bring in the overseas giants to come show you morons how good business is done, and not just down-right thievery.

Also if Vodafone hit it off big here, maybe that will intise companies like Orange, AT&T and all the other foreign giants to come bring in some competition.

On a side note: If only there was a way us MyBB forums could get a petition to government or lay a civil case to have cosatu and icasa dismembered and restructured the way the public seas fit.

Oh and has for the boycotting and moving to another provider... that's fine, go move to MTN which has already done what Vodacom is hoping to do... brainless saps.
