Hi

I live in Centurion and it seems if the network is donw as per Tobi-5520 , worked fine on Sunday night. It connects but you get no data through. Had a look at my signal strength and it hovers around the -60dbm mark. Hope they sort it out soon.

I live in Paulshof, just off the witkoppen road.

Have had decent reception for the first 4 weeks I have used cell-c, but, today, it has been Edge 1 bar, all day.

It is impossible to use - speedtest takes 5 mins to run.

I hope they fix, and develop a better mechanism for reporting outages.

Hi all, I stay in Pretoria East, Wingate park area, I have used my Cell C dongle for about 2 months now with out problems until a couple of days ago. Signal strength is good and connection can be made with no problem but most webpages time out, pages that work fine and respond quickly when connecting via my iBurst connection. I thought it might be my dongle but my house mate is experiencing the same problems. Is Cell C going to respond? They will take your money WHOOOOOOSH but if your connection hits the fan where are they?

So 2 emails, hours on hold and 2 complaint to the "tell trevor" link on the cell c website later. Same result:

No bandwidth in Wingatepark; Pretoria east. Dongel makes connection but no throughput.

Don't use Cell C for DATA or anything for that matter, there advertisements are lies! And they don't even have the sack to respond.

Is there a map of where the towers are located ?

I was working in Protea, Soweto this morning, and thought I'll try Wooosh there.... And my word does it fly! 7-8 Mps download. Still holding thumbs for more lit towers around Weltevredenpark - middle of January has come and gone...

The signal quality in paulshof has returned to the goodish level of before.

As someone else noted, for some odd reason, the dongle has to be flat, or it often gives me the edge connection.

I have ordered a router as specified in the relevant thread, and am wondering how it will perform, but, for the time being, am back to being happy with cell-c.

That is interesting. Mine has been installed in the bottom front USB port of my PC so it flat as you noted.
I have yet to see my signal strength drop below 91%.

I'm in Marais Steyn Park, adjacent to the Dowerglen / Edenvale area. With the tower at Greenstone, will I be able to reap the full benefits of the 21.6Mbps product, without any problems or additional equipment?

Thank you in advance.

Had real Whoosh service at a client last year.

Service degraded to not workable this year.

Registered a complaint with the CellC website. Seem as if it went to file 13.

Fail CellC :(
I've had a similar experience; service also degraded since 2011/01/01 and my query also sent to file 13, see here.

How can I be certain of this, without spending R3000 first?

Your best bet would be to borrow a friend's modem to test first. Don't trust the coverage map, it's not accurate.

If you buy the modem and return it within 7 days you'll be charged R350 handling fee.

You'll only receive the money back into your account within +- 4 weeks if you're lucky.

So yes, it's a chance you take.

Take a look at the Speedtest section and see if someone has run a test in your area.

I know someone in Greenstone did, had good results.

Hi there. Morehill, Benoni area was recently launced. Anybody have Speedstick there yet?
Im am a bit hesitant to buy without knowing if the speeds are atleast ok.

I've been struggling with a connection that increasingly goes down to EDGE. I've had a query open with Cell C since late December and only found out today that it had been closed. (I was not advised about the closure).

I've requested escalation since I sit about 300m from an array of masts and this is ADSL country, so little or no contention still. I think Cell C network people may be a bit lost on this...

Having sung the praises of Cell C and experienced whoosh here, its strange that the HSPA+ performance has now become so unstable. The Cell C techies would like to believe that it is the hardware (client side) but its not - its the server side (I know this because I've tested on Win 7, XP SP3 and have access to two different 3G routers). My hardware, wouldn't suddenly change its performance serveral times a day.

It's a case of 'when its good its very good' and 'when its bad, well, it's very bad'.

There has to be a good answer why the network is behaving as if it had never been upgraded from 2G!

Uh huh: I just clicked the Go Advance button to preview this post, only to find the E1820 light had gone out. It came back and is now stuck on green (EDGE) again, like it was all this morning....

Have you tried forcing your modem to '3G / WCDMA Only' mode? See here.

The network is back to HSPA+ (all on its own).

I previously downloaded MDMA but couldn't get it to work. I've downloaded the latest again, but get the "Cannot load dialog. Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection."

You say: "The down side of this is you must have a RAS entry named 'MDMA'. The easiest way to do this is to create a copy of the one created by your other dashboard." however since I don't have an existing entry (or cant find any files with RAS in their title) I'm not able to test it further.

Are you the MDMA developer?
