hi there yes i have exactly the same problem!! Im in glover street and have not been able to connect at all since last night when the wind picked up. Hope they fix whatever the problem is...and soon!!

I have connection back, but not exactly lightning speed yet - @simonisjf - I am also in Glover street - clearly a general issue.

Tower locations in PTA

Anyone know the 3G tower locations in PTA northern area - i.e. Villeria/wonderboom south/rietfontein areas.

I tried phoning cellc and after 14 minutes of speaking to guy who really couldn't speak properly or understand I got a manager who then told me the guy was trying to tell me where the nearest STORE is !? AI ! Apparently they "don't have that info".

I need to know where the best direction to point an aerial is for me and trial and error is a little annoying since 3g takes so long to jump towers, and tiring since it involves climbing on the roof.

You should have no problem in that area! Probably very well covered with multiple sites... highest being up on the koppie - Wonderboom suid se kant!

Is there one on the koppie? Awesome. LOS should be good. Unfortunately for me i'm in the lovely little horseshoe of less coverage :D

Must be honest tho, tonight its kicking butt. http://www.speedtest.net/result/1062913731.png got really good signal -57dBm

Will check out the koppie tho since thats better LOS for the directional antenna - thx for info MickeyD

-57dBm - the flippin towers outside your window!

I know right! It's not like that normally, i think the weather last night had other people scared off or something.

What kills me is that even with that for +- 4 days day I would get kicked down to edge for 6 hours or more and just could not get onto 3g(+), could see the 3g signal just not able to connect to it.

I did phone and chat to their tech guys about it yesterday.... suspicious....?

Also look at the high building sites in your area... on top of the hospital and then on top of the shopping centres or the tallest block of flats around. You might not see it as they are well disguised and not a massive structure like the first antenna installed in the old days!

I get -65dBm in Lanseria but it only connects solidly on green (Edge?). Occasionally will go to dark blue or cyan (HSPA+)? but soon drops and is fairly directional. Is there a map with only towers, not coverage?

When i went looking for which tower my signal was coming from it was only when i was real close to the tower i would get -50dBm so i don't think your too far from it.
Also seen Cell C on those norfolk pine/false tree towers

Forcing 3G/Wcdma Only won't hold it in 3G mode ?
I remember seeing somone talking about tower spotting via nokia somehow, but yes towers on google maps would be handy

It is forced already, and I have tried all the methods described to "unlock" the modem from EDGE. I guess some towers are not fully upgraded yet. The same happens in Honeydew at home - maybe even connecting on the same tower? That is what I want to find out.

OK sounds like it would be worth a call to them - Guess you already know MDMA can give you the Cell Id to see if its the same one

yeah, i've also tried forcing it with MDMA beta 5 (apparently forcing it in the 'fixed' cell c dash is unreliable and can cause problems). I also tried all the other tips on the site like manually registering to another SP etc etc but no dice. All that happens then is I can see the 3G tower and signal (which is ample strong) but no ability to connect to it.

Today I've had no problems and had solid HSPA+ all day so far.

Interesting this thread:

posts 5,6,9 & 10 specifically.

Similar issue, slow no 3g/3g+ contact Cell c and then things are fine. Will be interesting to see if it degrades over the next few days.

I couldn't connect to 3G also despite good signal but could on EDGE. Turned out my USB extension cable wasn't USB 2 compliant.

This is directly into usb, but I have heard the same as well. Not all USB extension cables (esp. Belkin apparently) are compatible.
