Cell C Coverage - Wilgeheuwel Roodepoort

Seems that they will not be expanding their 3G Coverage in the Wilgeheuwel area. They have offered me a refund for the Speedstick I bought.

So if you are in the Wilgeheuwel area, do not go for Cell C

What happened to to "97% population coverage by the end of 2011" promise? Or is Wilgeheuwel part of the 3% :p

CellC 3G coverage at Hartbeespoort dam

084 can't tell me when they will cover my area and suggested I pose the question on this forum. The CellC 3G offer is obviously attractive and I want to find out if I could use it. We don't have ADSL available here but do see Voda/MTN, at a price.
My question is can I use a high gain (10db) aimed at the nearest CellC tower in Atteridgeville, +/_ 15km away to my east, to get coverage at my home?
Anyone out there have some knowledge or experience with this. My co-ords are 25'45"17, 27'48"27, 1175m elevation.

I doubt that you will be able to do this, not because of the distance but because of interference from hills and Pelindaba. You need a clean line of sight to have this working effectively.

Thanks, I can't be sure but I may have a clear line to their tower west of Pretoria. Anyone know the Co-ords of CellCs tower in that area?

Same here man...im in klerksdorp north west though...im itching to get the 21.6Mbps modem...the second its released here im getting it!!! CANT WAIT

Hey speaktotman,

How is coverage in Klerksdrop? What are you getting? I'm looking to get my old man (in Stilfontein) some CellC.

Very keen to get the 2GB pre paid sim @R999. BUT BUT BUT I'm oh so scared it's gonna be a cock-up.

1. Will it work if I use my old Nokia 5800 as a modem?

2. I work in De Kuilen Primary School, Kerk Street Kuilsriver. GPS. -33.9243 18.6806

Can someone please shed some light here.

Regards

Question about the coverage map legend: There are two types of areas:

1. "medium/light pink" area is labelled "Cell C and National Roaming Coverage"
2. dark red area shows "HSPA+ 900/2100"

Is data services at all available in the areas described in #1 - even if it's only GRPS/EDGE?

Any kleindorpie people here who can comment?

Thanks

In the light pink areas you will get EDGE only, be it on Cell C or on Vodacom. In such areas, it would be best to try both Vodacom and Cell on EDGE to see which one gives higher speeds.

Thanks ajax. What about the darker pink?

I'm not looking at Vodacom at all, simply because it's too expensive. I'm looking to the the R999 deal for my old man, but if there's no reception, he'll be one dial-up for the rest of the year. R83.25 p/m for 2GB (999/12) or R400 odd for 2GB - it's not a difficult choice.

Hi guys, does anyone here know if 3G coverage will be possible based on the coverage map below? It seems I fall maybe 500m-1.2km out of the coverage range! That sucks if it means I won't be able to receive the signal! It seems that most of the actual coastal areas are not covered - do they know that some of the biggest users of a service like this will live on the Durban coast?

Help PLZ

Hi Guys,

I am looking at taking out a CELL C data contract. I am just concerned about the stability of the connection. I will be using it to play online games and for general browsing. I stay in the Randburg area - Northwold to be exact.

If anyone stays in the area and has the Cell C 7.2GB Modem, your advise would be appreciated. Please help me make up my mind. Vodacom (a lil bit extra for stability) or Cell C (Good price, but seemingly unstable)?

Thanks

Hi "MX-JRDN"

Its good that you want to verify the coverage in your area before investing in a speed stick. Please PM or email your address or where you will be using the speedstick, to verify the coverage in that specific area.
If it is ok with you, we can also arrange a technician to come over your location and test the signal.

Kind Regards

This is all very well. I did that...Potchefstroom Cell C insisted that the tower was up, and was due to be turned on in the next few days and I would have no problem at all.

So I bought the stick bundle.

That was in January. I am now sitting with a device thats basically useless because the edge speeds are disgusting, takes hours to get anything done - 3 months later and they still insist that it is "imminent"....

In the meantime, I have had to switch over to vodacom. 2GB a month wasted so far. So ask if they cant just "freeze" the contract, until they have their life sorted. Still waiting for them to come back to me. Surely, if you are customers are unhappy - it should be an option to freeze the contract until the issues are sorted out. It really is better than having customers demanding to cancel. I am prepared to wait, just dont waste my monthly bandwidth....

Bleh.

Any one in Edenglen? Red Bull contract and there is no I-net at all. Simple unfackinbelievable!
