CELL C High Speed coverage at Sun City?

We just purchased 2 of the white (7.2mbps 2gb/month) speedsticks and my old man is taking one with to Sun City next week to use while on vacation.

I have had a look at the Cell C coverage map and it appears as though there is no HSPA covberage at Sun City. If there is indeed no HSPA coverage - will he get stock standard EDGE speeds or will it be any better than the EDGE he has been used to on Vodacom?

Thanks, Cell C, Telkom doesn't have ADSL in this small rural town, battled for a year or so with them, together with some other people, to get, it to no avail. VC and MTN are also rubbish in this place, so all our hope is on you, please !!! Lars himself promised 97 % coverage end of this year.

I will be at Sun City over the weekend I will check for coverage but last time I was their in April I couldn't even use CELL C on edge at Sun City main hotel, last year december at the palace hotel edge worked magnificent.. Talking about coverage I was at Morula Sun about 5months ago and there was no 3G coverage at all but now there is 3G coverage.

I just hope Sun City is now covered will check at main hotel, cabanas, casecades and the palace but I doubt their is coverage for 3G

Cell C whoosh in Hermanus....is there any? Anyone tried?

After almost 5yrs with Vodacom 3G I canceled my 2gig package in April, with the idea of getting the Cell C promo. THEN I started reading about all the issues people have been having and have had second thoughts.

I live in the city bowl, where I assume(dangerous, I know) it should be fine, but I also spend 1-2 days a week in Hermanus for business. Is anyone or has anyone tried using it there? Is there coverage?

Even though there have been so many complaints the Cell C deal is still appealing because I'd much rather buy it outright now than have to go through the hassle of getting a new contract, as Vodacom says they cannot just reinstate the old contract with their new 2gig offering.

Thanks Guys, any input appreciated!

Cell C 21mb Whoosh stick in Greenstone hill (JHB)

I will be moving into the Greenstone Hill area in June and have been considering getting the 21mb speed stick. My issue is the coverage in that area, as you can see from the image linked (I am the blue dot), it is covered but its so close to an uncovered area that I am worried. The person at Cell C noted that there is a 7 day return available, but the refund could take up to 2 weeks. Is there any1 else in the area using Cell C and what is it like?

I will be using it for gaming, Starcraft2, CS, wow etc.

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if the new coverage areas are listed anywhere? I keep checking the coverage map and it doesn't seem to have changed around Pretoria at all.

I'm probably wrong but it seems to me that their roll out has lost a lot of steam.

Thanks in Advance
:D

Cell C connectivity issues

I've had the Cell C speedstick (E1820) since November and have been getting great speeds in the Lonehill/Paulshof area (just behind the Porsche dealership). I moved to a new place on Sunday which is just down Witkoppen (Stone Haven Road to be exact) and I can't even connect on EDGE. According to the Cell C's coverage map, I should be getting at least 3G speeds.

Is anyone here having the same issue?

Cell C's coverage map hasn't changed in yonks, so I have to assume they've stopped expanding their footprint. Emails to the support desk only elicit a standard reply, so that was also a waste of time. For voice and on-phone data they've got my business, but it seems 8ta might be the way to go with data. Sorry Cell C - your black car got stuck somewhere.

One of their technicians told me that 3g will be coming to my area(Paarl) last month...im still on GPRS...sigh. Cant even install chrome...

Has anyone tried it in Olivedale?

I'm just around the corner from you, by the Bellairs Superspar, its terrible here. Started out ok in November last year, but now its almost unmanagable. No service from around 5pm until the following day. Dodgy service through the day. Currently getting : http://www.speedtest.net/result/1382177451.png, but its going to die soon. Be wary of the the sales pitch.

I have figured out CellC's data services implementation strategy. First they installed towers in the more densely populated areas of cities and some towns just to put some colour on the map. In the beginning, with few users, speeds were great. As they signed on more users, speeds dropped and the putting out of fires began. There are dead spots everywhre in the covered areas.
They appear to be helpful, but are only sorting out those that shout the hardest. In the meantime, their network coverage is estremely thin and will probably remain so for years to come. The effect of the long 900 Mz radio wave that can penetrate buildings better than the shorter 2100 Mz signal is just urban myth - it is of no practical value.
Effectively, they appear to be big and everywhere, but they're not. CellC overpromised and underdelivered.
