That I fully understand but what I would like to know is do we also condem the massive fireworks show there, which pets also have to endure, like we do here?

I used to sort of be on the fence in this regard... thinking we needed tighter regulation in terms of fireworks etc, but that pet owners must do their part. This year has completely galvanised my opinion, fireworks must be banned completely at all times of the year, fines for being caught with any type of firework should be a minimum of R10k, and the fine for letting off a firework should be around R20k. Pet owners have tried their best to do their part by and large and have been shown the middle finger by the childish little w@nkers who want to let off fireworks.

Have not seen on sale this year. It was leftovers from previous one when they were on sale.

If someone cared about salutes, the ones like almost every country makes around world, I would give up need for personal fireworks.

OR BETTER: bring back army conscription, so young dorks with tendencies for loud SFX could use benefits of firing ranges.

Seems this years display was 12minutes long (give or take a few seconds)....

That is at least entirely manageable if you have pets that get completely panic stricken by the noise. You know when it will start and that it will be over very shortly thereafter. Its not ideal by any stretch of the imagination, but its predictable so can be worked with.

It doesn't help that wildlife in the slightest of course.... but at least for pet owners its something that can be managed. Its also part of what people with pets have been asking for, a bit of consideration and such so that one can plan around it... the stuff that goes on in Durban at least is entirely unpredictable and can go on for 2 or 3 hours...
 
Does anyone remember the fireworks display hosted at Rivonia Primary every year? That was smack bang in the middle of residential.

Completely agree. Some ****ing morons start at 1900 with the first fireworks and as soon as the people's dogs thinks its over another one is set off and then another etc etc. At least in London and those places people are respectful of people and things around them.

If you are going to quote law, at least make sure you are on the right side of it.. a by-law by the city allowing fireworks doesn't trump the Explosives Act which controls explosives prohibits any firework over 25mmx4mm in size from what I can see, and it also doesn't exempt you from nuisance bylaws as well.

Stop being a selfish retard. Your crackers are the cause of the problem, not the way me and others look after our pets. Nothing I can do with my pets can protect them from imbeciles of your ilk with their bombs.

It happens in durban... I've heard of a 4k a 10k and a 12k fine from new years eve... in a small portion of the city.

Is your enjoyment of fireworks that are a nuisance worth 12k for you?

You can of course.... but in durbs alone there are probably 20k places selling.. they can only do so much enforcement...

Exactly, your hope will be the fact they literally can't enforce so they will have to end up banning all together. Till then nothing is really gonna change.

Now I'm really glad we relocated to a smallholding - only heard a few muffled pops, but in general all was quiet.

So glad I was not present in Silverton, must've sounded like a war zone as usual.
 
Ironically the most and heaviest fireworks are set off in the previous disadvantaged areas. It sounded like war in the Mamelodi area, there seems to be no money shortage there.
