Match officially starts at 15:45pm and tickets are R30 (grass) to R40 (normal)

For those interested, the Cape Cobras squad for today is as follows:

Andrew Puttick, Herschelle Gibbs, Henry Davids, Justin Kemp, Stiaan van Zyl, Dominic Telo, Vernon Philander, Rory Kleinveldt, Con de Lange, Tyron Henderson, Charl Langeveldt and Paul Adams.

Sad that Gibbs was not selected for 2 tests for SA in Bangladesh but ya... so long he helps the Cobras win, I'm all good ;)

The Nashua Cape Cobras strode to their third consecutive MTN domestic championship win with a six-wicket conquest of the bizhub Highveld Lions in Cape Town on Wednesday.

The Lions totalled what looked like a decent 234 for five, but the Cobras cruised home with four overs remaining in replying with 235 for four.

In the process Alviro Petersen's clinical 103 was overshadowed by Andrew Puttick's 57, another 57 by Justin Kemp, and Henry Davids's unbeaten 86.

Opener Petersen's innings loomed large in stands of 61 for the first wicket with Stephen Cook (21), 84 for the second with Blake Snijman (51), and another 70 for the fifth wicket with Werner Coetsee (43 not out).

Petersen was run out in the last over of the innings when fast bowler Charl Langeveldt followed through athletically to throw down the stumps with the centurion just short of his ground.

Petersen and Cook were in control until the 14th over, when Tyron Henderson had Cook caught behind by makeshift wicketkeeper Puttick.

Snijman and Petersen maintained the scoring momentum until the 28th over when left-arm spinner Con de Lange broke through.

The otherwise composed Snijman had just gone to his half century when he played an ill-judged sweep and popped up a catch to Henry Davids at short fine leg.

Eight balls later the Cobras were celebrating again when Paul Adams dismissed Vaughn van Jaarsveld for a mere single, and three overs after that Kemp ran out Jimmy Kgamadi for five.

That reduced the Lions to 157 for four in the 32nd over, but Petersen and Coetzee steered the visitors away from further trouble with sensible batting.

De Lange's one for 35 from his full quota of nine overs was the best of the Cobras' bowling figures.

Cliffie Deacon removed Herschelle Gibbs (four) and Henderson (nought) with consecutive deliveries in the second over of the Cobras' reply.

But Puttick and Davids put matters right in their stand of 82 that ended in the 15th over when Puttick tried to pull a ball from Craig Alexander and feathered a catch to the wicketkeeper.

Kemp joined Davids to share 95 for the fourth wicket, the key stand in the match, and Davids and Stiaan van Zyl (25 not out) finished the job with their unbroken effort of 54.

The Teams were:

Cobras: Andrew Puttick, Henry Davids, Herschelle Gibbs, Justin Kemp (captain), Stiaan van Zyl, Vernon Philander, Con de Lange, Rory Kleinveldt, Tyron Henderson, Charl Langeveldt, Paul Adams.

Lions: Stephen Cook, Alviro Petersen, Blake Snijman, Justin Ontong, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Matthew Harris, Friedel de Wet, Jimmy Kgamadi, Garnett Kruger, Werner Coetsee, Cliff Deacon, Craig Alexander, Johnson Mafa.

The match was exciting!
It was one of those matches were you are on your nerves through out the entire match (because the score was 'high' and we had to chase it)

I was not impressed with Gibbs, now he knows why he was dropped from the SA team, he needs to pull finger!!!!!!

Hits a 4 and goes out! ARG!!!!!!!!!! I was so angry!
The entire match, I was telling everyone around me that this match, the score to chase, everything was perfect for Gibbs and he goes and goes out stupidly!

Damn it!
What a weekend!
Okay, so we lost to Zimbabwe and Nashua Titans but at least Gibbs scored a century in that match :(
All's not lost!

We are 2nd on the log (1st is the Nashua Titans) but I'm sure we'll pull finger and win more matches.

Anyone see the matches vs Zimbabwe / Titans, wanna comment?!
I don't have DSTV so I couldn't watch the matches :(

Saw the highlights. Is Zimbabwe part of the domestic challenge teams now or something? Or was it just a "friendly"?

Asked Jasmiena @ cricket.co.za, she had the following to say regarding the Zimbabwe team's inclusion

Its part of Cricket SA’s plan to help uplift Zim’s cricket standard, hence them being part of the domestic set up for this season.

That's sorta what I thought... well, now we all know!

And for those interested, if you come to the game tomorrow wearing colours of the Nashua Cape Cobras, you'll be one of the lucky ones who get given a Cape Cobra flag!!! :)

I have 2 so I don't need anymore! :)
Besides, I can't wave more than 2 at a time! haha

Aaaah. Gonna miss the cricket and the S14 rugby games tommorow night! The wife is dragging me off to Somerset West to listen to Celine Dion. Would much rather be watching the sport, we can always put on a cd if she is desperate to listed to Celine! Good to see the Cobra's 2nd on the log. Was doubting the abilities of our coach earlier in the year when we were struggeling. We certainly have more talent in this province than any other. Our schools cricket is also very strong. Nice to see the afrikaans schools like Paarl Gym really developing cricket talen as well.

Don't rub it in! . If it was Led Zep doing a world tour I would feel justified in missing the sport.
