Won by 8 wickets!

Me and my friend Daniel are going for free because we attended the Paarl game which was 'cancelled' so if you still have your ticket, you can get in for free at the game on Friday.

WE GOT A HOME SEMI FINAL BABY!!!

Charl Langeveldt took four wickets in five balls to set the Nashua Cape Cobras en route to a thrilling one-wicket victory over the Gestetner Diamond Eagles in their table-topping Standard Bank Pro20 scrap at Newlands on Friday.

Langeveldt finished with incredible figures of five for 16 from four overs, helping the Cobras to restrict the Eagles to 127 for seven. He was also at the non-striker's end as the last man in as Ryan Canning smote a four and single off the first two balls of the final over of the match from Roger Telemachus to give the Cobras a one-wicket win with four balls remaining.

The thrilling victory in another heart-stopping Standard Bank Pro20 match means the Cobras are certain of home field advantage for the playoffs and the inside straight on one of the two South African places in an international Pro20 shootout for a US$1-million prize.

Langeveldt turned the game in the Cobras' favour in the 19th over after his team had asked the Eagles to bat. Top scorers Morné van Wyk (43) and Dean Elgar (33) had just blasted Vernon Philander for 20 in the previous over when Langeveldt was brought back into the attack.

The pair fell in successive balls as Elgar top-edged to mid-on and Van Wyk edged to the keeper.

Roger Telemachus's attempt to restart the innings was ended following a single when he lost his off-stump to the unstoppable Langeveldt, who dismissed Adrian McLaren, lbw, with his very next ball. That means he is on a hat-trick - yet again - when he bowls his first ball in the Cobras' next match.

Dillon du Preez smashed 15 in the final over to lift the Eagles to a semi-respectable total but Langeveldt's four wickets - to add to the wicket of Riley Rossouw at the top of the innings - prevented the Eagles soaring towards the 150 mark.

A 53-run third-wicket partnership between Herschelle Gibbs (21) and top scorer Stiaan van Zyl (30) put the Cobras in sight of victory at 75 for two before spinner Thandi Tshabalala introduced a serious mid-innings wobble.

He took three wickets in the space of 11 balls to plunge the Cobras into crisis at 100 for five, dismissing both Gibbs and Van Zyl as well as the dangerous Tyron Henderson (21).

Henderson fell as he went for a third six off Tshabalala over long on but the impetus he gave the innings allowed the tail to nudge and scamper their way to the 28 they needed off the final six overs.

Thanks to Jasmiena, I've now got the theme song, I've edited it slightly from the file I got from Jasmiena, I removed the 'silence' from the beginning and end of the file so the song starts sooner and I also increased the volume by 30± % so that it is louder for cellphones.

For those who might not have noticed, at Friday's (11th April 2008) game, the flags of Newlands were flown at half mast in memory of Selwyn Meyers who passed away.
 
NASHUA CAPE COBRAS TEAM FOR STANDARD BANK PRO 20 SEMI-FINAL VS TITANS.

The Nashua Cape Cobras team for the forthcoming Standard Bank Pro 20 semi-final was announced this morning by Western Cape Cricket. The unbeaten Nashua Cape Cobras emerged top of the log with 24 points, six ahead of their nearest rivals, and will be playing the Nashua Titans at Sahara Park Newlands on Sunday, 20 April 2008. The team is Graeme Smith (Captain), Andrew Puttick, Herschelle Gibbs, J.P. Duminy, Henry Davids, Vernon Philander, Rory Kleinveldt, Tyron Henderson, Con de Lange, Ryan Canning and Charl Langeveldt.

Smith and Duminy replace promising youngsters Richard Levi and Stiaan van Zyl. Six national players involved in the just concluded series versus India were available, namely Smith, Duminy, Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher, Ashwell Prince and Monde Zondeki, but it was decided to include only the first mentioned two.

Coach and Selection Convenor Shukri Conrad said the Nashua Cape Cobras were faced with an embarrassment of talent and choices and it had been a difficult call to make. Did the selectors completely reshuffle the team by packing in the six national players or did they back the current crop who had brought the Cobras unbeaten to the knock out stages of the competition? The selectors opted to go for continuity, with some batting reinforcement at the top of the order, but it was not an easy decision since the national players are so self evidently great talents and had indicated they were keen to play.

The decision now leaves Kallis, Boucher and Prince free to stay on in India to participate in the new IPL League if CSA gives them the go ahead. Western Cape Cricket CEO, Andre Odendaal, emphasised that these IPL players put their obligations to SA cricket first and had been keen to play for the Nashua Cape Cobras. We appreciate the fact that Cricket South Africa went out of their way to ensure they were available and that they were all prepared to come back for the final two weeks of the Standard Bank Pro 20, even at the risk of losing considerable income in India. The Nashua Cape Cobras selectors have now made their call and our three players can now participate in the launch of the IPL with the full blessing of WCC. Indeed, the team was selected early so that they knew where they stood and were not unnecessarily inconvenienced.
