Pity Mac is out of the next test.![]()
mickey said:"I'm optimistic - I think he'll play. He had some ultrasound this morning and is going to do some strength and muscle activation this afternoon. He'll bat on Thursday and will do some training again tomorrow afternoon - and we'll put him through a fitness test on Friday morning."
Is he confirmed out? cricinfo said this morning that a decision would be made tomorrow morning.
Not yet, but probably not.
Flintoff confirmed and batting at 7.
Think it may be a mistake, would've put him at 6 for Collingwood.
Flintoff will be replacing Collingwood (provided Sidebottom is fit). They're just moving Broad up in the order - not a bad idea given that he scored 76 against us last week and Flintoff hasn't batted in a test for 18 months.
If Sidebottom can't play, I think they'll keep Collingwood in the side.
Having trouble getting past the homepage on cricinfo, but there is a pic of Flintoff , with this comment "He's back: Andrew Flintoff has been named in England's starting XI for the second Test at Headingley and will bat at No.7 © Getty Images"
Who bats at 6?
The big news is that England have dropped Paul Collingwood and left out Chris Tremlett. With Ryan Sidebottom not recovering from his strain, that means a debut for Nottinghamshire's seamer Darren Pattinson.
They hadn't decided at that stage - were still waiting for fitness tests. All they knew was, Flintoff in at seven.
But cricinfo are now saying:
http://content-rsa.cricinfo.com/engvrsa/engine/current/match/296910.html
(Or they did say that a second ago - but in the 2 sec between copying that quote and copying the page url, that has disappeared - so who knows?)
No word on McKenzie/Duminy yet.
Edit: Wait, it's all back - and McKenzie is fit and will be playing.![]()
Never mind Freddy Flintoff then, it looks like the day has a new headline story. Pattinson, for those who don't know, worked as a roof tiler until the age of 28, and spent his weekends playing for Dandenong in Melbourne club cricket. Victoria called him up as cover during a spate of injuries in late 2006. He'd been born in Grimsby before moving to Australia, and after a couple of modest seasons in Australian State cricket he signed for Nottinghamshire at the beginning of this season, since when he's taken 29 wickets at a little over 209 apiece. This. Is. Utterly. Preposterous.
To put this decision in the context of the first class season so far makes it all the more baffling:
Steve Harmison 286 overs - 37 wickets @ 22.54.
Pattinson 197 overs - 29 wickets @ 20.86.
Simon Jones116 overs - 29 wickets @ 13.27.
Matthew Hoggard 198 overs - 25 wickets @ 23.76.
I presume Kallis will be aiming for the stumps today, and not 2nd slip as per usual.

You talking about his batting, or his bowling?![]()
