CRICKET SA vs England

clearly my expectations about the kind of lead we should be targeting are far too conservative. But i'd still be happy with a lead close to 200.

you aiming a bit low there :)

200 will be a great lead though. Lets hope for 250!

Well done Ashwell Prince!! Its a shame that so many people wants him out of the team. Hopefully he shuts them up for a while.

have to agree with boycott, i would declare round about now with the lead of 220 to give england a hope of thinking they can still win the match. otherwise you run the risk of them being very defensive in their 2nd innings. but then i guess you have to believe that your bowlers can take 10 wickets in 2 days?

No chance now. Bat as if it was a 20/20 and see how much you can get. Nothing to lose! I never understand declarations really. If you have no fear of being bowled out why not just cut loose and score as quick as possible. If you lose all your wickets in quick succession at most you have wasted, what, half an hour?

I know the bowlers can then bowl wide or leg side but then use your crease. Improvise.

Thinking about it, our tail is very short so I suppose you might as well ride it out

EDIT: ah if i had refreshed before posting I could have just quoted lance and posted whs

We may declare at tea though. But common practice, for psychological reasons, seems to be to come back out after tea, face a couple of overs just to annoy the fielding side and then declare.

Actually thinking about it this might be the main premise for declaring. Psychologically the opposition know they can't bowl you all out. If you let loose and they bowled you all out they may be feeling good about themselves...

300 must surely be the target

EDIT: It would seem not

it seems smith has gone for the approach of let's see what the tail does

Nope they're not waiting for AB to get his double ton... just gone.
Harris out too so what's going on?
Ntini and Steyn are risking injury by being out there and we're losing precious time. What if the rain interrupts the last two days
:confused::confused:
