Edit: O/T, but I believe Ponting made mention of the fact that Gibbs just dropped the World Cup. ;)

You talking about the 99 WC? that was Steve Waugh, Ponting was not the captain back then. And he never really said that anyway, all an urban legend!

Please, that was being sarcastic, more like sledging. It was far from congratulating him in the way that SA did to KP yesterday.

Again on the field and off the field are two very diffrent things ;)

How the hell is giving Gibbs his award sledging, if they just lost? (438 game)

Listening to Robin Jackman on Standard Bank Inside Edge (SS2) last night, he was saying how some of the South African guys made too much of a fuss over KP when Steyn pinged him on the helmet.

After reading the article which I quoted part of above, it really makes me wonder about our attitude towards our opponents?

You sure as hell wouldn't see the Aussies making such a fuss over a batsmen they knocked over, let alone "embracing" one who scored a hundred against them.

I think we're lacking a bit of toughness.

If you listened to all of what Robin Jackman said you would have heard him say, as well as Shaun Pollock, that it appeared to be a team tactic to deal with KP. Giving him a hard time when they came to SA backfired so they appear to have made a decision to try another angle this time. I for one think this shows great team thinking. They do not just approach a game from a purely cricket perspective but from a psychological one too.

I think it may work... KP likes to get one over on the people who turned their back on him. Make him feel you are all genuinely nice guys and it may change his mindset... and who knows upset his" rhythm!

Did anyone hear Geoffrey Boycott on the radio yesterday? Damn I love listening to that guy. I have never heard a commentator get away with speaking his mind like he does. Pat Symcox spoke his and was fired on the spot. Lee Irvine was apparently too controversial as well. Lee Irvine? WTF?

Geoffrey Boycott FTW! He was giving us a lot of stick, but rightly so...

When he chatted about "quotas" and "affirmative action"? ha ha yeah he is cool.

One thing about him though and that is that he appears to have created a controversial persona for himself and now I think he tends to TRY to be controversial as he is expected to be. It seems a bit forced sometimes.

Really poor performance from our boys yesterday. They got their lengths totally wrong. Need a super performance today to get back in the game.

+1.

We should have bowled fuller and not so wide with the new ball :(

Hope they get this right with the 2de new ball....

Semantics aside, my point still stands. We overcooked the situation with KP yesterday.

Yeah, and Zimbabwe as well.

I reckon his controversial persona is natural. I think sometimes what comes across as "forcing" or "trying" is merely him knowing that he can take things further than most and he uses that to his advantage.

I guess what you heard and what I heard were two different things. I recall Jackman saying that they should've just gotten on with things. :)

Disappointing performance from our boys thus far. It seems a bit of a flat pitch but we need to do better with the new ball. Once again we start a test series some what undercooked but this is to be expected with Mickey Mouse in charge. Eish so much talent in this SA side, should be doing better than 391/3...
