CRICKET SA vs England

KP's ego just went up a few notches today. ;) Great innings though.
 
Well, that was a dissapointing day of cricket. Thought we had them going there at one stage with 3 quick wickets, but then KP (bastard!!) stepped up. Could have (should have) been run out for 0, but got the break and used it.

Our bowlers did not deliver the much hyped goods, and made the decision to bowl first look rather silly.

Glad we got Vaughen out cheaply though.

The test is still young, so cant really predict where things are going. Can only really judge things after our first innings.

Hope for a Eng collapse in the morning, and then some huge first innings batting from Smith and Kallis. Even better if the rest can step up as well.

Do you guys think putting Eng in to bat first was the right decision at the time? Obviously now it appears not. What do you think Vaughan would've done?

I think batting first, first test of the series, is the best way to make your mark.

At the toss Vaughan said he would have bowled first as well. But never really sure whether they are honest in those situations.

I reckon we misread the pitch a bit.

Also bowled too short and too wide, and wasted a lot of deliveries.

Think they went for the safe option, but in hind sight, should of gone for the brave option.

Am sure Vaughan was really glad he lost the toss though!!
 
With all the rain over the past few days the decision was always going to be to bowl first as there was some movement expected with the pitch having been covered for a few days. Most of the commentators stated that the obvious decision was to bowl first even though the groundsman said the pitch would quicken as the match progressed.

Tomorrow is meant to be cloudy with showers again, so with a ball that is only 10 overs old SA could make major inroads in the morning.

I think the pitch was a lot slower than what we expected. And we did not bowl particularly well.

If we can get KP early, we might be able to still roll them for under 400. Then bat, bat and bat some more!!

we need to start this tour gently with a tough draw at Lords and get stronger and stronger as it goes on, unlike the last few tours where we faded
this is just the start required

Not surprising really.... you have to think the England team politely asked the groundsman to please ensure there was not too much pace with the bowlers we have at out disposal. It is after all their home ground advantage.

might be that, but its more likely because the groundsman never had access to the pitch over the last week. With all the rain around the pitch was covered most of the time. I think its more a case off being under prepared.

Should speed up a bit though as the game goes on..

Makes a lot of sense, although I would like a tough 4 or 5 wicket victory over a draw :)

It felt like the bowlers believed too much of the hype that was built around them, and forgot that they still have to get the wickets.
 
I like KP as a player.

We are just sour because we let him slip away :p

Damn I was dissapointed with our bowling yesterday :(

Listening to Robin Jackman on Standard Bank Inside Edge (SS2) last night, he was saying how some of the South African guys made too much of a fuss over KP when Steyn pinged him on the helmet.

After reading the article which I quoted part of above, it really makes me wonder about our attitude towards our opponents?

You sure as hell wouldn't see the Aussies making such a fuss over a batsmen they knocked over, let alone "embracing" one who scored a hundred against them. :rolleyes:

I think we're lacking a bit of toughness.

Lol, wrong! Ponting gave Gibbs his man-of-the-match award in THAT one-day game....

Also the Ausies almost always applaud a batsmen that had a good knock, but I agree that they should not have made such a fuss over him on the field...

Please, that was being sarcastic, more like sledging. It was far from congratulating him in the way that SA did to KP yesterday.

Edit: O/T, but I believe Ponting made mention of the fact that Gibbs just dropped the World Cup. ;)
