Don't be melodramatic. He wasn't banished from society, he chose to withdraw - understandably.

Yea rightCronje's punishment was in line with Azaruddin
wiki...Towards the end of his career Azharuddin was accused of match-fixing; South African captain Hansie Cronje in his confession for match-fixing had indicated that Azharuddin was the one to introduce him to the bookies.India's premier investigating agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation conducted an investigation & published a report.
Quoting from the report -
"It is clear that Azharuddin contributed substantially towards the expanding bookie/player nexus in Indian cricket. The enquiry has disclosed that he received large sums of money from the betting syndicates to fix matches. There is also evidence which discloses that he roped in other players also to fix matches, which resulted in this malaise making further inroads into Indian cricket. The evidence against Azharuddin, which is discussed next, clearly establishes that he took money from bookies/punters to fix cricket matches and also the fact that the underworld had approached him to fix matches for them."
This led the BCCI to ban him from the game of cricket for life in 2000. The BCCI lifted the ban on Azharuddin in 2006 and even honoured him along with other Indian Test captains in a ceremony in Mumbai during the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy. The ICC, however, claimed that it alone had the right to revoke the ban despite playing no role in handing out the original ban.
Malik captained Pakistan in tours of South Africa and Zimbabwe before being suspended from cricket having been accused of bribery. He was however found innocent and allowed to continue his career. Malik played his last Test match in January 1999 but ended his cricket career in disgrace, having been banned from associating himself with the game in any capacity by Justice Qayyam's enquiry in May 2000. He became the first ever cricketer to be banned for match fixing and his appeals of innocence have not borne fruit since, remaining an outcast in the cricketing world.
A local court of Lahore, has lifted the life ban imposed by Pakistan Cricket Board on October 23, 2008. Civil judge Malik Mohammad Altaf ruled in favor of Malik and quashed the ban imposed for alleged match fixing.
He was selected as the Chief Coach for country's National Cricket Academy on 3rd November, 2008 just days after the ban withdrawl
Got to go for my rehab now.
What about Warne, he was also involved in the fixing and got banned for a year or something if my memory serves me.
For drugs/performance enhancing substances, not match fixing.
In September 1994 during the Singer World Series in Sri Lanka, an Indian introduced himself to Mark Waugh as 'John' a bookmaker who wanted information about games during the current series and the Australian summer. The following evening Waugh introduced John to Warne who received A$5000 'no strings attached'. John contacted Warne by telephone three times during the Ashes series in 1994/95. Warne supplied John with information on the composition of the team and the likely state of the pitch for certain matches.[12]
In February 1995 Ian McDonald, the Team Manager had questioned both Warne and Waugh after being tipped off by a journalist. Both made admissions to McDonald, Alan Crompton (the chairman of ACB) and Graham Halbish (the CEO of the ACB) and both were fined — Warne A$8,000 and Waugh A$10,000.
Yup all i can say though is they got caught early, but i am sure had they been offered the money hansie was and where getting away with it they would have gone deeper and thrown matches.
So sure hansie was bad but he is not the only cricket player to get into this sort of thing, 5000 dolla or 50000 dolla its all the same thing. No i got the year banning wrong i just remembered warne had been involved in something shady at some point.
