Cricket: Test Cricket

May i ask what experience means right now? We need to go out and score at 4-5 to the over, if anything kallis will block 9 of 10 deliveries he receives instead of attacking most deliveries, this is not the time for a kallis 100 off 350 balls. This is a time for a fast duminy, de villiers 100 and a 6 hitting boucher innings. We need to reach their score by end of play tomorrow. We could really do with a 400-450 run day :), in 90 overs i don't think that is to much to ask :).

Test matches are not won with both sides of the wicket going wild. With boundaries comes risk, you need someone to play an anchor role yet at the sametime not get fixed into that mode permanently. The biggest criticism of Kallis has always been the same, he is always in anchor mode or at least thats how it was. Things have changed quite a bit since the last Wc? when this fact was prodded by everyone and he has played with more risk however.. in a lot of his innings if you watch he now either goes like a kamazi and it pays off or doesn't at all more often than not.

I dunno.. it just sucks that we have someone like kallis who is quite good but rarely dependable when the chips are down. That's where smith again excels.

Looks like we going to hope for a miracle or a draw.. I don't get the McKensie inclusion for the final test when they shipped off a replacement for him/smith, i mean sure, new guy will be tough opening even but heck shove kallis up the order then where wearing the ball out would be a good thing ;)

[-]lastly whats with devilliers not really performing well lately? i guess its the debut shine wearing off :P [ALL batsmen have this happen esp when they play and do quite well initially].[/-]

I think a follow on would be a good thing but i doubt aussies will take it if its up because batting last on the pitch is going to suck. So no point getting out early besides kallis + mckensie aren't really going to suddenly score big are they? ;)

In four innings he's scored a fifty and a century (to win that game) at an ave. of 63.

Only boucher left to make a sizable contribu.. wait, steyn must still bat ;) :D

... there's no difference to me between 2-0 and 2-1 at this stage.

That doesn't make sense
How did it feel when Eng under KP won the last test match??? Dead rubber and all and yes I know it's KP but still.
Guys like Morkel and JP are the future, they will be on the next tours. They have never tasted defeat at the hands of the Aussies so losing the last test match will just be crp.
The way it looks now it is going to be difficult but like the 1st test where we conceded a lead to them, we still came out fighting in the 2nd innings. Who knows... I still have faith in the guys even with us 310/7 atm :D

Yea we are sitting at 310/7 without playing risky shots, amla wasted so many deliveries.

I understand test cricket and i get that you don't bat fast but when you need to win a test match and the other teams total is over 400 i think you need to step on the gas, why bat slow and play for the draw when we could go for the win and possibly lose. It does not matter if we lose.

Chis, i'm with you man 2-0 or 2-1 its the same BS, rather go for the 3-0 and get to 2-1 than play out a draw. Fiekus there is only 2 days left, this will end in a draw unless the aussies collapse and score under 150 which i doubt.

Steyn bowled.

I think Boucher will have to climb in and play the big shots if he still wants his century. He won't be getting any help from his teammates.

Yea lets finish this innings and have a bowl at the aussies tomorrow morning :), maybe we bowl them out for 250 and chase 400 again :).

Think of winning the series as our target, and whitewashing the series as our stretch target. We have achieved our target, we need to go all out to try to achieve our stretch target. If we win or lose it makes no difference to our goal of winning the series.

I'd rather say in two days time "We lost the last match, but made a good attempt of trying to win the whitewash", than "If only we'd pushed more, maybe we could have won a whitewash."

Either way, that's all looking academic atm. :) 327/8(9)

Why can't a substitute come in for an injured player?

A sub can come in to do fielding, why not for bowling or batting?

327 all out. AUS gonna win this one or a draw. Only two days left and if Aus score 300 tomorrow, then we have to chase 418 on the last day. Not gonna happen. Best thing we can get is a draw.

I think they should be allowed to. It's not fair...

It's unfortunately never been allowed. Probably because they could get a sub that's better than the rh player (although in this case it would be hard) which would make the game unfair... but at the end of the day a rh player isn't exactly a good thing for us... :(

We will be playing hard for at least a draw here, we can at least try to keep up the good work.

On that wicket? Aus will settle for 250.

Ah, okay. I'll start my first innings with Steyn - oh noes, he got injured. Never mind, I'll bring on my sub to field/bat in his place. My sub's name is Duminy. Luckily, Steyn recovers to bowl in the third innings, before strangely getting injured before the fourth. Thank God I have a suitable substitute in Duminy.

:)

That's why subs can only field, and not in specialist positions.

Edit: Oh, and I see McKenzie is the on-field capt in the absence of Smiff and Prince.
