Not really. They could be trying to save the better batsmen for tomorrow. It doesn't necessarily mean we're not going for the win.

I think that was exactly the intention. Put Morkel in, get him to knock some runs off the 20 odd overs left in the day and leave the REAL batsman aka. Amla, Kallis and Duminy to finish it off tomorrow. I don't think it was a wasted wicket, actually refreshing to see us mix it up, pity it didn't work out as planned though.
 
must say we need someone to play with the confidence of smith against the aussies to stand a chance here. smith is the only batsman with the courage to take on the aussies at almost a run-a-ball while the others are overly cautious even amla who normally scores quite quick.

Yeah, I don't think Ponting would have declared this early if Smith was able to bat.

I think Amla and Kallis are both due a big innnings. Especially kallis.
 
Would a replacement be able to bat in Smiths place or do we only have 9 players to bat with?

I do think a substitution system needs to be in place. It's just not fair. Some bowlers purposely target batsmen, in the hopes of hurting them.
 
IMO we can win this one ! The pitch aside we have good batsmen who can get the job done ! Im holding thumbs for a win !

Tomorrow is gonna be really tough ... ~300 runs in 3 sessions and 8 wickets in hand. Go boys!!
