And if the same happened in SA, do you see South Africans at the stadium start cheering the opposition. Wake up. Sub continent has the most knowledgeable cricket crowds. Just look at the crowd for the SA-NZ quarters and the support for both teams.
Whoa there, stallion.
I'm only trying to get my head around this incredible natural phenomenon is all. I'm talking specifically about Indian support here and not sub continental crowds in general. Specifically I'm talking about the pin-drop silence that overcomes their support when the opposition does anything vaguely productive for their team. Watch the India-Pakistan semi and tell me I'm wrong. Admittedly this game is going to be very heated so maybe even a better indicator of what I'm saying when the deathly silence contrasts with the blind frenzy.
In SA, this phenomenon is not known to occur - and when I say say that I'm not necessarily saying that our crowds are any more sportsmanlike or appreciative of good cricket by visiting sides, however, almost invariably there will be some sort of vocal reaction to a good shot/catch/runout or piece of fielding undertaken by an opposition team. Whether this reaction is complimentary to the opposing side or not is a different kettle of fish altogether. Having said that, 99% of the time, said reaction does not take the form of a collective boo either - but like I mentioned before, maybe it's just a cultural thing and I honestly mean that in a non-offensive way to India's support considering the way we bandy about the culture word here in SA these days.
To add to this though, I'll don my flame suit now and throw in my final 2c worth by saying that we'll never truly be able to gauge the polar opposite effect with India here in SA since a sizeable chunk of our local Indian SA support appear to hang up their Proteas apparel and support the team from across the ocean in such a case - as was apparent in India's tour out here last year. To all the patriotic Proteas supporters and members of the Indian community, apologies to you for that generalisation.
