Cricket world cup discussion thread

Yawn, India choked again, you gotta laugh at these rabid one eyed Indian supporters.

India dont look to flash either, if India dont get New Zealand I think they will be packing there bags - Bunch of Chokers

Agreed, they need to up their game aswell, not as attacking as the Pakis, SL or Aus.

If we beat ireland or bangladesh we are through then its knockouts and its which ever side can put 3 great games together.

Good performance from the boys bouncing back from the england. Steyn was magnificent and batting was decent(still would have liked one of amla, kallis,ab or jp to bat throught they are experience its unfair to put all that pressure on faf and co).

unfair as it may seem but sometimes if our top fail it would be nice to see our tale to bring us home. Ab's innings won this game along with amla. Kallis and smithers waste 6 overs.

Ha, what an epic match. So much for being chokers - India choked but I doubt we'll see anyone label them as such

What is a choker....
•an unfortunate person who is unable to perform effectively because of nervous tension or agitation

Up until their catastrophic collapse, the Indian batsmen were getting on quite nicely, and should not have been feeling any pressure,
being on course for over 300 as they were.

This is why I always support the team playing against India:

They weren't happy with the sledging between him and Baji and also when he asked for a runner and the umps allowed it.

They were happy to see him out and even then there was some words flying around... It wasn't because of his match winning innings though.

Totally agree here however there are lotsa reasons to dislike other teams too, not supporting a team bec of their followers is not up there

It's for that very reason that I despise the West Indies and their supporters!! I can never understand the supporter that spends the money and makes the effort to go and watch a game of cricket but they are unable to appreciate and acknowledge the performances they witnessing.

HUGE win for the Saffers. Confidence must be soaring! I know that certain people will always find ways to label them as chokers, but tonight's game showed some huge tenacity to win.

A team effort. Bowlers got slaughtered up front but held nerve to force the collapse at the end. Batsmen built the innings superbly. Allowed the final push for the win. Proudly South African, I am.

Sadly I see it in other sports like rugby too. Applause is the very minimum in acknowledging performance of the opposition. It's similar to the crowds booing when the opposition lines up a kick for poles.

So who the selectors going to leave out once tahir is fit? Johan put his hand up today as did Peterson. Perhaps morkel? It's a tough call. Or AB back at keeper and morne out?? Getting the balance right is crucial!!

Also how about amla and the fact that he walks when out. Speaks volumes of the mans integrity. I bet he would walk in the final over of the world cup final match if he were out. Watching the replay of his dismissal in tonights game it was impossible to see if he had gloved it or got bat on it. But he knew and walked.

Well done to boys but not smith. Best time to bat was start and end of innings and he was way too slow. Very difficult to bat middle overs when spinners are on and alma and kallis did well, though kallis started off slowly. Middle order And tail finally, finally came thro. As for van wyk, reverse sweeping a fast bowler? Lastly how will they fit tahir bac in.

+1. Thorough gentleman of the game.

Pity I missed the south African innings, sounds like a cracker of a game. Went to a wedding no cellular reception and no tv's will have to watch a highlights package.

To be fair, they were teetering right on the brink. Breathing had already ceased and faces were turning blue - the choking had commenced. I trust that their snatching victory from the jaws of defeat today will serve as much stronger motivation than what an easy game would have. They were tested to breaking point & they came through... it's been a while since one could say that with a straight face.

What a fantastic game of cricket. Well played the Proteas. Well played Robin.

Probably Botha again, one would imagine. There's no telling what impact he would have had on this match. Leaving van Wyk out would weaken the batting (despite the fact that he didn't do much today), and as you say balance is crucial ;) Botha will play an innings like this maybe once every 4 or 5 matches.

Actually, before the advent of television and related tech used in cricket, it was expected for players to "show gentlemanly conduct" and walk if something like that happened. But now Amla is a rear breed, an honest player.
