Cricket world cup discussion thread

Oh yeah? I hadn't noticed, but if that's the case, surely it can't be allowed.

I don't think enough people are kicking up a fuss about it, probably because India have been doing it so slyly. One of the commentators on radio commentary yesterday also noticed the same thing. It's as if they're playing him as a fielder.

One thing that needs to be sorted out is this sub and runners rulings. Batsmen are not actually allowed to get a runner for cramps (its a fitness issue), something that SA does as well. Its supposed to be an 11 player game, with players being able to play the full 100 overs.

Cramps aren't a fitness issue, it's mostly caused by low sodium and potassium levels. I highly doubt that players like AB are unfit.

The issue of substitute fielders definitely do need to be addressed though.

Was AB cramping or had he injured himself diving into his crease avoiding a run out? He's also got a bit of a back strain, hasn't he? AFAIK a runner is allowed for cramping at the discretion of the opposing teams captain. We all remember Strauss denying Smith a runner for cramp in the 2009 ICC champions trophy...

How many times has SA used a runner in their last 10 games as compared to India?

Hint: Just check Sehwag's stats for the last 10 games...

I also get cramps, magnesium helps a bit and so does 15 minutes of stretching every day.

Kenya are doing OK. Another upset coming up?

Edit: well maybe not an upset because now their run rate is to high. Still, not a hiding from Australia.

The prospect of a humiliating defeat by Australia over Kenya seems to have been prevented. Kenyans doing well...considering...!

Big ups to Kenya for not embarrassing themselves.

I was expecting Australia to deliver something more crushing than a 60 run victory.

...and a Kenyan gets the Man of the Match award. :-)

I hope we get Pakistan or Sri Lanka in the quarters, we rarely lose to them - when it counts. New Zealand is one of those teams who put in gutsy performances, and might not have prodigious talent, but can beat any of the top ranked sides.

Glad we facing some adversity though. Rather get these issues of - dare I say it - 'choking' sorted out now than later.

Definitely their best game of the tournament. Well done to the Kenyans!

I wouldn't want Pakistan. They can blow hot and cold, but when they fire they are almost unbeatable. I'd rather take SL or NZ.

The Dutch are crumbling in their game against the Bangladeshis. 139/8 in their 41st over.

With 2 relatively pressure free games coming up the Proteas can afford to toy with their batting lineup.
I say open with Van Wyk and Amla,deVilliers at 3,followed by Kallis and Smith for the second new ball.Jp,Faf and Botha will come in for some late hitting.Drop Peterson for Tahir if he's fit and bring back Tsotsobe for Morkel.Lopsy can hit a few so bring him after Botha.
That way you got a slightly stronger batting lineup.
