Crime Stats

Yowser, those stats are really alarming. :(

Just had a quick look at the England/Wales stats, but they are so detailed compared to these, I don't have the time:-

http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/crimeew0506.html

One quick one, rape is about 1/5th of SA.

Other things at first glance aren't that different, such as common assault, but things like heists and carjackings are a tiny fraction of what SA is experiencing.

Then again, this is police state UK :D (big brother is watching you!)

One thing I've noted again, don't care if it pisses anyone off, is just how crap SA gov websites are - totally and utterly 3rd world, it's shameful.
Have a look at that police site, take a look at how completely pathetic the crime stats are, witness the disclaimer at the bottom about ie4 and 800x600 - bleh.
Just shows how crap the SA police really are.

To compare apples with apples, I don't think something like this exists in South Africa:-

VERY bl@@dy GOOD!

WE or rather our crime just made BBC NEWS . Mr Biles of JHB reporting. They relly noticed the released information seemed to be flawed and stated the 180000 murders per year is concerning and the Heists is up by 75% as well as in increase in hijackings but most disturbing is the fact that, as pointed out by TuTu, the violent killings during these hijackings! "the lack of value of life by the criminals"

c'mon over to the UK then :D

i would love too... but i am actually thinking of Holland.

heard any news about livin in Holland?

there murder rate is something like 4 out of 100 000 people get murdered a year :D

But I want to move cuz african apathy and general stupdity is getting to me.

SA has ALOT of catching up to do.

I attended the Community Police Forum this month and the Station Commander gave us statistics for the crime in our area.
Most percentages were up a little or the same as the last year in review, but Robbery and the 3 different versions of Robbery they have listed was up a staggering 43%!!
Nobody can ignore those statistics.

My friend who I live with at varsity's car was broken into for the 2nd time this year last night. Apparently another car and house in the same road were broken into too. Cops don't say much but the armed response guys say its just getting worse and worse and everytime they catch someone and hand them over to the cops they just get released anyway.

Yeah its because prominent black youth group leaders instructs and entise these people to steal from those who has and specifically stated the whites as they cannot use muti to get back to you. So with the GVT and Youth leaders condoning these actions I am not surprised that the police release them and what surprises me most is that the security company is not arrested for false arrest!

halicon : I am going to Holland for a year next year. See you there :-)

Once you are there You will never want to come back. Right time to do so anyway. You will be safer but only IF; if you stay away from the sex and drugs! :D

Seeing as people always say we're too negative on here, the police did actually come when I called them this time, that's an improvement from last time. :D

pupa : Stay away from the sex and drugs? Are you mad, why do you think I am going! :-)

But I will be back. I am an African. As my mother says, we need the African sun. It is part of us

Syndyre : Similar story. My cars starter motor (or something) was buggered, and I tried to push start it down the hill from my apartment. Long story short, the car spent 2 weeks in a dodgy parking lot near my apartment. One night I went out for a cigarette and saw that my bonnet was open and something was going on. Callled the cops who arrived within a minute. Cought the guy with his head still in the bonnet :-)

Good, armed response caught 3 guys breaking into the house 2 doors down from me at about 2 am last night, apparently they still had stolen property from the last place they'd robbed earlier that night too. The scary thing is its supposed to be a good, safe neighbourhood. So if its bad there, whats it like everywhere else?

I live in Centurion, and over the past five years, there has been only two break-ins into cars in our complex, one about three years ago, and the other early last year. not bad for a country rampant with crime
