Cryptocurrency Mining

I might be talking past you. I never interacted with the rig directly past setup as i had the monitor directly connected to the onboard graphics and not the primary gpu like they suggested so i had no gui.

I only interact with it via their website.

Yeah that is the weirdest part so far (well one of them) - once setup online and you plug the flash drive in, you are meant to input the Rig ID and the password so they can "connect" but I was never asked to do this.

It just starts ubuntu and then I see updates and then all of a sudden simplemining.net?

On HiveOS it does not show online or GPU's etc as it meant to but if I login into simplemining.net it shows a "New" Rig Group called: 2 Miners and under notes says "2 Miners ETH" - I never made that at all?

It shows my old Rig there from when I first tried simplemining but that new one that is running I have no idea.

Not sure what I am doing wrong but still can't get HiveOS to boot where it asks for ID and password - it just automatically starts mining of Simplemining.

Had a thought, is it not possible to install windows 7 and then use nicehash with the 1060 3GB cards?

Please can someone let me know as I want to get this rig up and running again and so far today haven't been able to.

I can't help with windows mining with nvidia. I had limited success with windows using radeon which is why i switched.

Where did you download the hive os image from?

Windows worked perfectly with my 1060 cards until the update stopped supporting 3GB cards.

Downloaded directly from HiveOS website.

The above screenshot you took is that from the rig itself or their website?

Nevermind, stupid question. I see the bookmark tab.

Did you take the rig id and password from that page you took a pic of and entered it on the rig during setup?

That’s the issue - I was never given the chance to enter rig ID and password.

Had monitor connected and on bootup I choose Ubuntu then it started loading and downloading updates then it says simple miner and all of a sudden it’s busy mining. But on HiveOS webgui it shows as offline still. Was really really confused to say the least.

There should be a option to drop to a console then do.

firstrun -f

Hiveos should ask you for the id and password again.
If it fails maybe add another rig so you get a new ID. Maybe they have a duplication issue of the ID's?

Edit: do the firstrun -f command directly on the rig ofc.

OK so this is the steps I took originally:

1. Create profile on HiveOS

2. I then added a rig, wallet etc

3. Booted PC with USB drive installed (was also connected to monitor via HDMI so I can see boot etc)

4. I thought it would ask for ID and password to proceed but never did. It did a few updates then said connected to simplemining.net and started mining ETH. When I logged into simplemining I saw there was a new groupd called "2 Miners" and under Notes was "2 Miners ETH". It said it was online and running claymore-eth-v11.6 - I didn't set any of this up. When looking on HiveOS website it still said machine was offline but I watched it as it was mining so that freaked me out / weirded me out a little!

Honestly not sure what else to do or does that all seem correct?

Thanks again for all the help.

So for whatever reason I just can’t seem to get HiveOS to install and work. Have tried multiple times using multiple USB drives but nothing.

So I’ve decided to install Windows 10 again and disable auto updates - will that work? I have an old Windows 10 ISO (from beginning of the year). If it works will run NiceHash and hopefully all works as before.

On a different note - if I wanted to get new GPU’s, which ones are recommended now for “best for bang / not breaking the bank”?

Yeah it should work on old windows 10 iso.

Bets bang for bucks is some rx 580/rx 570 cards, cryptoknight has been doing very well mining wise and they ASIC resistant atm.

So managed to get Win 10 installed and before even connecting internet went into group policies and disabled updates so that should hopefully fix that.

With regards to the cards, will have a look to see if pricing has come down at all (even a little). Would a 4 card rig of 570’s be worth it or not really at this stage?

Yeah 4 card rig is still worth it as there many cryotoknight coins to mine atm.

OK will have a look at price difference between 570 and 580.

Should I be looking at 8gb cards or 4gb still worthwhile? Lastly if 580’s couple hundred more per card is it worthwhile spending the extra for 580’s or won’t the gain be that much?

Not worth it, get 8gb for now they have faster memory and seems to be decently priced now.

So 570 4GB’s I shouldn’t be looking at even if I can get them for around R4k each?

So there is no gain in going for 580 over 570 at this point - rather save the cash and get 5x 570’s (or stick with 4 for now) as opposed to 4x 580’s?

So 4x 570’s 8GB instead of 4x 580’s 8GB (anywhere from R600 and more extra per card).

What can I look to be making average per month on the 4x 570’s and electricity cost (average)?

Anyone faced the issue when setting a board to mining mode it won't boot from SSD. The boot option in the bios just goes blank.

I'm running 6 x 4Gb 570's mining xmr. Perfectly good cards, with a few clicks you can get really good hashrate out of them. I'm doing between 947H/s and 953H/s on all 6 cards.....
