Unfortunately here the high latency can be seen on the exchange as well as minor packet loss. If the line is migrated to Crystal Web then one of our support staff can see what they can do for you, but this isn't our network in any way causing increases in latency in your gaming...

What exactly is the difference between the Crystal Clear Home Capped and Crystal Clear Business Capped accounts besides the R20 in cost? Uncompromising home data -vs- priority business data doesn't really tell me what I need to know :)

Quite simply, if you intend to use an account for business use, opt for a business account. If it's for home use, it's best to opt for a home account. We categorise this based on time-of-day access most importantly so that we can plan capacity properly and avoid the problem other ISPs have experienced. In addition, business accounts allow for static IP and VPN priority setup.

In short, business accounts are for business use and home accounts are for home use. The nitty-gritty details of how they're configured on our network controllers are something that we do not disclose publicly as it is sensitive proprietary information...

Understandable, though it makes it difficult when considering one against the other. I work from home, so during the day there's a lot of general browsing, SSH, streaming and whatnot. Occasionally some downloads on NNTP/Torrents. In the evenings browsing, fair amount of streaming on youtube/netflix, Xbox One gaming, etc.

Which account is better for these purposes? Or is the business account have the same benefits as the home account but with priority during the day as well?

Never opt for a home account for business purposes, is really the best advice I can provide you with.

We do not, and never have mixed our business and home around like other ISPs and marketed one to the wrong group of people. We've dropped business pricing to be the most affordable in SA to support the SMME market in SA. Our FAQ which is linked on every product page provides a very good breakdown of how each account performs, and it's in plain English rather than any jargon, to help to make it easy to select the right account for your needs. It's difficult for me to say outright which specific account is the best for your specific purposes, but there's an easy way to make the determination on your end: if your usage is home use, opt for a home account most suited as per the FAQ. If your usage is business only, opt for a standard business account. If the usage is intended for high usage business and high usage home, opt for a premium business product...

I somehow completely glossed over that link - sounds like the business account is the better choice - thanks for help!

Anyone else experiencing slow performance in Cape Town? Specifically on services such as Netflix/YouTube?

I see on the proposed Telkom future Fibre layout, it stops halfway into my block, literally 50 metres before they get to us. Is there anyone I can contact to wake them up to go slightly further? It will be pretty frustrating to not be able to get fibre by this small margin.

Thanx DJ and Mikey for helping me with my little problem
Did not look forward to do remote support this weekend on a slower other ISP account.

I've been a happy 4Mbps Home Premium Uncapped customer for about a month now and am considering moving management of my ADSL line to CW but having read various threads here I am getting nervous about extensive downtime with this whole dreaded holding pool process. There is talk of up to 30 days loss of service but I suspect that is misreading things since I believe the 30 days is the maximum time a line can be in the holding pool and eligible for migration after which point it reverts to a port disconnect and reconnect rather than migration. If the new ISP picks the line out of the pool efficiently then the down time should be way less.

Does Crystal Web have any anecdotal evidence as to how efficiently Telkom to CW line migrations are going at the moment? I heard that 10210 could mess things up pretty badly at the Telkom end but now, with this holding pool thing over 6 months old, maybe the procedures are better understood by the 10210 staff.

I assume that CW only get involved once I confirm to them that my Telkom line is in the holding pool (which is the point where I will lose service due to a soft-stop I believe). Do I need to make sure that Telkom give me some sort of reference number (a bit like a PAC code needed when porting a UK cell phone number) or do I simply wait for Telkom to say "done it" at which point CW can use my landline number to search the holding pool and take control of my line?

My main reason for moving my line is so that I can adjust the speed once every 6 months to a very low 1Mbps just to keep hold of the ADSL port for the half year when I'll not be actively using the connection. Once my line management is with CW then am I right in thinking that all requests to change line speed will be handled entirely by CW support and, although there might be a delay in Telkom making the change, should result in no loss of service (or at worst a few minutes when the new profile is pushed to my port)?

Hi Julian,

I'm considering moving my line over as well. I was told that there is apparently no service interruption to the line during the process of migrating it to Telkom's holding pool. I don't know if that's accurate, but it's what I've been told.

If you let us know as soon as it's in the holding pool then that is 100% correct. No downtime any longer...
