I'm asking as I've also had issues over the last day or two.

Seems like Telkom/Opensrve must be having issues in NMB.

Not just a day or two for me though. Since I moved to Walmer, Twitch has never worked well.

I did get an SMS from Telkom re an outage they'd identified in my area (041 360) on the 18th which was cleared on the 19th but didn't notice any problems during that period...

I've mentioned this before to no response, but could Crystal Web PLEASE revise their home premium uncapped prices sometime in the next month. My family is crying for an uncapped solution after yet another upset with our capped account. CW's current prices for home premium uncapped make no sense at higher speeds though.

40Mbps home uncapped premium is R2399pm. I don't understand how this is calculated. Going with the per gig pricing of the 850GB capped account (R1699pm, so R2/GB), the 40Mbps home premium uncapped assumes a usage well over 1199.5GB, as the uncapped bandwidth is subject to shaping and not as 'premium' as capped. Is this not unreasonable? Even if an uncapped user was determined to download over a terabyte of data, the shaping would ensure there is no unwanted impact on the CW network.

I will switch to that 40Mbps uncapped product the day it is priced somewhere in the general vacinity of the also excellent R975 RSAWeb 40Mbps uncapped account (which is never throttled and leniently shaped, allegedly - would rather not have to experiment with a new ISP now that I'm already with an excellent one).

I think you've answered your own question. You get what you pay for. Not that I'm saying I won't like lower prices - in fact, I'm considering moving back to 2Mb/s due to this very reason - but I wouldn't want it if it comes with degraded performance.

did you ever figure out what caused the issue?

Nope. Everyone swears innocence. Don't want to turn it into big drama so I let it go. Whoever did it probably did it by accident and feels like crap. Everyone has been very responsible with their usage up to now.

RSAWeb has a phenomenonal network though. I had a 10GB ISPAfrika account when I had fibre, and it was a resold RSAWeb account. To date I have never had an account perform so well. The performance was beyond incredible. So I don't think it's a very big risk trying them out. That said, I'd prefer staying with CW.

You've got quite a fancy router haven't you? Maybe you should investigate whether you can allocate a certain amount to each user per month (via their IP's - they do all have static IP's on the network, right?). I know that this can be done on the Mikrotik, I just haven't had the need to look at how to do it though.

Only the CCTV DVR has a static IP. I'll have another look, but I've never seen options like that in the router options. It's a Zyxel SBG3300-N.

Here is your answer - the Ubiquiti can do it using the Guest/Hotspot/Voucher system.

You'll have to play around a bit but it looks fairly straightforward.

Pretty much why I've downgraded my package to 100MB Capped from Premium Uncapped now and increased the line speed.

I'll get the rest of the bandwidth elsewhere as I need it, until the pricing starts to make more sense.

I definitely don't want to use a voucher system for my wifi, but I'm busy searching Youtube for a similar solution that uses simple password access. Thanks.

30 day voucher? Did you watch the video?

Yeah, I did. Did I miss something? As I understand it, a voucher system requires that I make vouchers and distribute them to everyone. I have a pretty big family and there are friends and domestic staff that use the wifi (the domestics have old phones and use a pittance according to my UniFi interface). It would be a huge pain in the ass to create a gazillion vouchers and have to find a means of distributing them (to people outside the immediate family), and to deal with complaints that a voucher has run out. Also, there would be a control-freak login page whenever unvouchered users connect to my wifi. It feels like one step forward and 1984 steps back.

:crylaugh: fair enough

Personally I would create one 30 day voucher that everyone uses but one that keeps 100 gigs or so 'in reserve' so that if someone does go bossies you still have a buffer.

The voucher basically becomes a thirty day password

I just recalled that vouchers can be renewed in the UniFi interface. Although setting every device up with a voucher will be pain, especially for guests, at least I can renew them after that. Might give it a go for next month.

Hopefully CW gives me an uncapped option beyond then.

Edit: Hopefully this won't cause issues with the Apple TV and printer.

Nee man, it's not an all or nothing.

You define which devices need to connect via the Hotspot and which don't need to.
