I'll chat to them again when I get home tonight about the nntp server. The IS nntp server was nice for stuff up to +/- 450 days that were not DMCA'd.

The 7 March email did state they were looking into new news servers after issues with the previous provider.

So far my first impressions of the new Crystal Web are not exactly positive. Trying to download a 160MB file from a place I'd normally get line speed (10Mbps) from, and now the download speed is oscillating between 100kB/s and 300kB/s, mostly staying around 100kB/s.

And for those who care, Crystal Web have their own AS now (AS328239), under EvoNet's name. It seems that their transit provider is AS22355, also known as Frogfoot Networks.

So what are the alternative ISPs for people who do a few hundred gb a month?

This. Would also like to know... Never used to need to check my network stability. Now I have to do it every day coz something's up.

That is on the new network. I know IS has latency issues in the evening so tried out their new backbone and it’s worse

IS has 12 hops to the EU server I connect to while evonet has 15. My ping to JHB is lower than to Cape Town despite me being in PE

My IS account is back to full speed. Going to test their new network now.

Frogfoot is a last mile fiber provider though?

Okay, so straight up, I think those of us on Cape Town are having our traffic routed to JHB then down.

Speedtest.net WA Cape Town server on IS: 20 ms
Speedtest.net WA Cape Town server on EVO: 60 ms

Overwatch (EU) on IS: 173 ms
Overwatch (EU) on EVO: 230-250 ms

League of Legends (EU) on IS: 171 ms
League of Legends (EU) on EVO: 222-240 ms

Currently finding out from their live support if I can remain on an IS based account or if all customers will be moved to EVO.

So all customers will eventually be moved to EVO. I am giving notice on my account and will be moving over to any IS based ISP. Pretty sure that will be Web Africa but am confirming that with them before I sign up.

Edit. Have given notice, am now waiting on the confirmation email.

I have a Web Africa package that I haven't used in years, which I canceled over the weekend after I received the email regarding the increase in price.

I have now asked them to ignore my cancelation request. Not trusting this latest move by CW.
I will test the system up to the cut-off date for cancelations this month.

If I'm not happy, I will use Web Africa or my other account at Afrihost while I'm looking for something that suits me.

Thinking of dropping my CW account. Anybody have any suggestions as to which ISP is good nowadays? I'm thinking VOX or Web Africa - any thoughts on this? Going capped.
