Crystal Web DSL performance feedback thread Part 4...

So all customers will eventually be moved to EVO. I am giving notice on my account and will be moving over to any IS based ISP. Pretty sure that will be Web Africa but am confirming that with them before I sign up.

Edit. Have given notice, am now waiting on the confirmation email.

I'm on WA business capped ADSL data:

Thinking of dropping my CW account. Anybody have any suggestions as to which ISP is good nowadays? I'm thinking VOX or Web Africa - any thoughts on this? Going capped.

I'm generally happy with WA. Not always mind you. But if you are used to IS and their tiers then it will be familiar. Note the calendar month notice period though (which I hate).

What I hate about having to use live chat is the fact that you always get the same "Technical support is looking into it" answer but I never get any feedback on the issues I raise.

No call reference or follow up. Nothing.

How can they not test the routing for people in the South before rolling out the new backbone.

The new network is not completed yet...They still have to fine-tune according to support. Latency will come down.
I'm in Durban and already my JHB Ping is better than it was on IS

Whilst sometimes true, they do actually assist in most cases, in my experience, and they're far better in this regard than what I experienced with other ISPs.

Im gaming on Vox happily, around 190ms average but this is likely due to my routing in my area.. waiting on fiber.

Ive switched to webafrica (friends account) to compare and found it absolutely dismal.. happy with Vox atm, downloading, streaming, games, steam.. all push through at full line speed 12mb...

I check back here every so often to see if CW has improved at all...

Got confirmation that there is now NO news server available anymore. So I am also moving. Remember you need to cancel before the 18th of this month otherwise you will pay for another month.

On the plus side: my game pings were good late last night, but very jumpy in the early evening.

Was online with them now over a slight email issue.

They are about to attend Brian Seligmann's funeral so I'm not sure if they will respond for the next 2 hours or so. Sad day.

Got any numbers for that?

In CT, about 150-160ms LoL EUW yesterday evening at 8pm, was 160-165ms on DSL. CW on its best day was 168ms, that's nearly half a year ago now though, when I left it was averaging 240ms (CW).

Am not always getting my full 100Mbps download though, mostly maxing at ~8MBps, torrents always max out though when they're large enough (the time it takes to scale to max for a 200MB torrent the download is usually already done /shrug).

I logged my cancellation last night and am still waiting for email confirmation which said on their website is to prevent fraud. If I haven't gotten it after lunch I'll pop onto live chat and ask what the deal is.

Thanks man. I'll give VOX a go once I've sorted out my cancellation.

BUT WAIT THERES MORE!

With these new accounts they have rolled out for everyone, their capped accounts no longer allow for concurrent connections
So now i have to get another account for my home at the coast, just so i can monitor my security system \:D/

Another day in paradise

It gets even more bettererere. Not only do I have **** download performance on this new network, but my ping time to uplink is also in the region of 100 milliseconds, up from about 25 before.

This has been pretty crappy no answer on there phones my premium business uncapped 20mbps which I used on 3 lines apparently has no more concurrent connections. I have cancelled but not getting any notifications. Why did they go ****up a good thing...
