The mail you should've received that contains the new credentials, reads like this:

Dear Ho3n3r

THE FUTURE IS HERE. WE WANT YOU TO BE PART OF IT.

At Crystal Web we believe that change is a key factor in improving business practices and solidifying client relationships. To make progress in a world that is in a constant state of technological metamorphosis, certain moves need to be made to ensure that we as a business, and you as a valued client, are on an equal plane with the rest of the modern world.

We invite you to join us as we take a step forward into a future that will change the way we do business forever. As of 11 March 2018, Crystal Web clients will be supported and managed by next-generation technology of the EvoNet Group, bringing with it a superior client portal, better billing engines, more payment options, and additional bandwidth.

What does this mean for you as a loyal client?
With this change, comes a change to your client portal login details, as well as a complete standardization of your DSL username and password. Previously clients connected across a multitude of username variations which limited our ability to make changes. As of 11 March 2018 that changes. Crossing over to these new systems means you receive a new username and password (below) for your DSL account, as well as a login to the New Client Portal (below).

How does this benefit you?
The current systems implemented by Crystal Web are very limited in tasks you as a client can complete independently. Crossing over means that you not only have access to the new client portal, but also have the flexibility to manage your own account, view your account statistics, examine your invoice history and update your profiles. Not only do we believe in servicing our clients, but we also understand that empowering them gives them the ability to run their homes and businesses the best way they know how: efficiently.

Make the change to the new system by 11 March 2018, and join Crystal Web as an EvoNet brand, as we move on to bigger and better things. Note that these new login credentials will only become fully active on 11 March 2018 however you can make the switch now if you wish.

Your New Details:
New Portal Login: https://carbon.crystalweb.co.za
Your Client Portal Username: xxxxxxxxxxx
Your Client Portal Password: xxxxxxxxxxx
We recommend you change your portal password after logging into the client portal

Your New DSL Username: after logging into your portal, click services to view your new username
Your New DSL Password: click the key next to your username to change your password and get connected.

Your DSL username and password need to be changed in your modem/router to get connected.

Kind Regards
Crystal Web

That's all good and well, except the account I was given couldn't even authenticate this morning XD

Hopefully the issue will be resolved by this afternoon, but like I said, if latency is *** I'm out. If it's not as good or better then I'll switch to WA.

Same for me, probably. The next week will act as a trial of EvoNet to me, and if it's still up to ****, I'll move.

Just go to the new portal and do the forgot your password thing, once you have made a new password and log into the portal go to services, your account name will already be there and there is a button to change your password to your new account if you so wish. Only thing is there is no news server which is why I'm going to try another ISP, no more free time in the day, no more news server and way way more expensive than any other ISP, I'm done.

Wut, really?

Wut, really?

Due to your highlight, going through the site again.

JOIN THE TOP RATED INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER TODAY!
Crystal Web has been independently voted the overall top rated ISP in South Africa 3 x times,
as measured by a combination of network performance, value for money, and support.
And in January 2017, Crystal Web was again voted the top rated network of all ISPs in South Africa.
Where is the link to where they were voted?

And seems yes, only midnight to 8am uncapped on the capped accounts.
150GB @ R249 = R1.66/gig
250GB @ R379 = R1.52/gig
350GB @ R599 = R1.71/gig
500GB @ R799 = R1.60/gig

The pricing is weird. E.g. Afrihost is at about R1.10 after price increase on the lower accounts, to just over R1. Vox is at about R0.80/gig. Both offer roll-over as well, which I don't see on Crystal Web's packages.
Is there a reason why you're all staying with them when you are having problems regarding their services? They're quite a bit more expensive. Without the uncapped during the day and the news server, I can't see any justification for the price.

I can only speak for myself, but I guess it's the same for others. The one part of Crystal Web that used to work was the actual internet connectivity. I used to have an internet connection where I never had to worry if I could actually use my internet connection on a specific day, or if they were busy trying to skim profit by grossly oversubscribing their network. Pretty much all other parts of Crystal Web's service has always been terrible, though. Leaking names/usernames/passwords at some point seemed like a bi-monthly exercise, the portal has never worked, support is hit and miss, etc, but I could forgive that as at least the internet connection itself worked better than it had with any other ISP.

Now, however, the internet connectivity itself has also become hit and miss. Some days it's fine, other days it's terrible. So indeed, why stay with Crystal Web? The reasons I haven't moved yet are:

1) Trying to find an ISP that's not a scam and which will actually provide decent, unthrottled connectivity is difficult and a lot of effort. I don't know of any. Do you?
2) I guess I'm hoping that Crystal Web's internet connectivity will return to the levels that they were at.

Rumour has it that CW sold their users to Evonet.

Evonet is CW.

https://techcentral.co.za/brian-seligmann-killed-in-freak-accident/80096/

The highly knowledgeable and highly personable Seligmann was in the process of launching a new fibre and wireless communications business called EvoNet, a company formed out of the Crystal Web stable. He was working with another well-known industry veteran, Crystal Web founder Shaun Kaplan, in launching the company.

For existing users free time is still 00h00 to 18h00. For new users 00h00 to 08h00

Suppose that's why ... until I can get a proper recommendation on a proper alternative anyway.

40 max and 65 max to Jhb and CT respectively, now 70 and 70. In game also gone from the happiness of 265 in the CW heyday to 300+ daily .... that alone has me looking around.

In Cape Town I'm used to 180 to EU. If its higher than that I'm out.
