The guy you got on live support is actually a complete moron ...

Gladys says hi

Serious? Then you hire really competent morons, so that is impressive..

When is Gladys coming for dinner and to see the sea?

Where's my mate Lendl?

Shift ended early today. BCEA won't let us keep them chained to their terminals 24 hours per day. Irrespective of the fact that we frequently hose them down with water while their mouths are open and there's bread locked in a cabinet for when they're good.

Damn BCEA

With the coming VDSL price drops, I suspect capped accounts are going to be the preferred option going forward for those who can get it.

Crystal Web is introducing a referral system. You may now signup directly from our website, and if need be, your friends and family can talk to us about the products and we'll walk them through the signup process. There is now a link on our site to signup. http://www.crystalweb.co.za/

How the referral system works:

When signing up, the new customer needs to add your name as the referrer. If they omit this, you won't get your referral discount.
For every referral, you get R10 off your subscription for your account, for life, even if you change accounts with us.
There are no limits, so you can essentially get your account for free, for life, from Crystal Web, simply by referring friends, family and colleagues.

Simply direct them to our website by social media, email, or word of mouth and ensure that they use your name on the signup application, and we'll take care of the rest.

The basic terms for now:

If you cancel and resubscribe later, you will forfeit all referral discounts.
The discount applies only for the duration the referred customer remains an active customer with Crystal Web

Muahahaha, Imma sign up so many people CW will be paying me to have an account with them :p

Found the damn stuff...

Who the FEK puts networking stuff like boots and ends and cage nuts in the bottom drawer of a bedside table, when i have a large toolbox full of stuff like that in the garage?!?!?! :wtf:

Even managed to actually change the IP address of one of the Ethernet ports via the LCD so that I can do some setup without interfering with the rest of my network.... I'm suitably impressed with myself at this point in time. :p

It is more gratifying getting it right on your own. :D

Can I throw it against the wall already?!?!

Trying to change it from the very random .88.x static network it comes with to .1.x that my network already talks on (so it will be easier to move it into the gateway role in the future) and it just decides fek you.. i don't like you... i'm going to forget that after a few seconds....

*cries* :p

Genuinely can't wait for next month.

I'm capped on my unshaped, uncapped account.
Ironic? Or Oxymoronic?

Do you need full speed nntp and p2p at all times?

We're going to introduce capped as well, but we've got some awesome ideas for that too. It's now a technical limitation that's preventing us from introducing it just yet.
Shot. Was a little disappointed not to see capped in the announce mail but didn't say anything since you guys did clearly listen to a decent chunk of the requests.

To answer the question - personally I'm starting to think true unshaped is a bad idea unless it comes at a sky-high premium. P2P traffic can be delayed 500ms as long as it gets there eventually and the throughput is high enough then the experience is fine. Skype traffic needs to happen right now else its screwed. Thats the technical reality of it & should be enforced across the board imo.

@CW - is nextgen local already - I know they were talking about it? (Too lazy to check)

Also...see pm

I'm capped on my unshaped, uncapped account.

Same here, this temporary shaped account is horrible for my type of usage.
The download list is getting queued every day waiting for Monday.

That's the current reality on our accounts, irrespective of shaping. General network management demands that protocols be prioritised else you'll drop packets across all protocols when contention happens. And all networks are always contended. So even unshaped accounts have general traffic prioritization for the sake of proper network management, with latency dependent protocols receiving highest priority, and non latency dependent protocols receiving the lowest, such as p2p. This is why game developers for example are morons for using p2p as a communication protocol as even in a low contention network, p2p will take lowest priority, as it's a protocol that in itself is not dependent on low latency.

Skype traffic on the other hand needs to be prioritised, and it is. Uncapped unshaped has a very real future but it's one of those products that's also not price sustainable over the long term without input cost reductions as general average internet usage increases, it doesn't decrease. So without wholesale cost reductions on capacity, uncapped unshaped either increases in price or the product performance is intentionally degraded. Same applies to uncapped in general...

Oh, and no, NextGen is not local, and won't be any time soon...

Please PM me your account details and what you're trying to do. Those new accounts should have sublime performance, just not on large downloads in peak periods...
