Crystal Web (NEW ISP) ADSL Feedback

A question.

Was the reason you guys didn't want to go with IS because you had to follow their shaping policies and weren't allowed to do your own?

It is one of the reasons and it is a little more than shaping policies for the products we've brought to a limited market
We are confident that the product which we are structuring as an uncapped general usage product is with the extra capacity that is coming on stream is perfectly suited

Edited for a little qualification :)

Mmm.. 29Gb & 36GB for the last 2 days, thanks to the kids, nope, I'll stay here working fine unless you need me to move. ;)

We certainly don't need you to move at all. The options exists though for customers to move over to a temp realm should they choose, while we resolve the issues. Because that's the right thing to do...

Hi all,

An email should be in your inbox shortly from Shaun and everyone at Crystal Web regarding the international issue and the resolution. Thank you to everyone for your continued support, patience, understanding, and encouragement. We hope that the solution will be acceptable to everyone, and go to show our level of commitment to delivering the best possible internet experience in South Africa.

Crystal Web Team

Going to have to take you up on this, I suspect. EU latency is in the 1000+ bracket.

That's quite concerning. Can you pop a mail to support with these tracerts so we can diagnose? Something's not right there...

It's not consistent, but there are spikes that high. For a while it will sit in the ~250 are (which is okay, but not 'perfect'), and often go into the 300+. Then every couple of minutes up to 1000+.

*Full disclaimer - I am streaming music at the same time, and it's also possible that someone is working the network hard (I mean my home network) (although I did not encounter these issues when using the previous ISP).

Anyhow, will troubleshoot and send info in tomorrow.

Thanks.

I don't see myself as a bandwith hog/abuser, but having a 10Mb line (Not to mention the other chaps & the FTTH brigade), and only being allowed to do x amount of streaming/downloads on it before being "shaped/throttled/soft-capped" is like having a Lamborghini and only being allowed to drive it in your drive-way!

All the other data transit on the network will certainly have an impact on performance. I'd suggest putting some QoS on your router if you haven't already done so. Diablo 3 is one of the items we've prioritised to investigate best performance options for. We've already identified an issue in London on this...

What are you struggling to stream exactly and we can look at resolving it too.

Currently testing streaming of live tv and it's working 90% of where we want it to be, but for a specific service, not generically...

Hi cw

Im trying to stream presstv through yhe samsung smart hub app on a 4mbs line and it plays 2 sec and buffers for 10. Can you please have a look

Hi all,

It has come to our attention that another individual purporting to represent an unregistered company has been emailing customers of ours and other mybroadband members behind the scenes, duplicating and repurporsing our corporate communication for his own benefit, duplicating/replicating our systems, and is actively attempting to elicit confidential information from us directly, our customers and via our partners, as well as suppliers.

The individual in question claims to own his own national backbone infrastructure, which upon investigation turns out to be untrue, and claims to use an international link by Verizon which turns out to be untrue.

Those of you already contacted will identify the similarities in the communications, not only by private message, but by email too.

While Crystal Web and its management structures encourage an active and co-operative competitive environment, we view the actions of this individual in a dim light, and want to make it perfectly clear that this individual and his unregistered business have absolutely no relationship with Crystal Web whatsoever. If you are contacted by this individual and you feel the communication either replicates our business model, communication, or you are in any way alarmed, please forward this communication to [email protected]

While we have chosen not to initiate legal proceedings as we believe this may be an honest mistake by an inexperienced individual, we will not rule out future action should be believe our rights have been further breached...

The guy seems to copy your messaging almost exactly. Seemed shady from that alone.

We have copies of emails this individual has been sending to our customers where he quite literally has copied and pasted the contents of our corporate communication to our customers, who in turn reported it to us. We also have direct communication from the individual attempting to elicit confidential information from us while purporting to be a customer. We also have copies of support emails that replicate our systems and communications, and more.

We suspect that this is an inexperienced individual and are not yet taking action though...

Where and how did this individual obtain the CW customer details? I guess that he/she is a local Forumnite...

Yes, he is, and has been following this thread and emailing/PMing our customers.

We believe this individual to be the very epitome of a fly-by-night operator, considering that all he's doing is copy-pasting things we've posted, and trying to say the same things as us...

I have seen the other thread in this concern. People like that lacks a "backbone". He should provide a public explanation... his actions are in the public domain now.
