Permanently throttled accounts, you mean?

Unless we ever release a product where throttling 1) makes sense, and 2) is explicitly stated and clear with usage limits and so on, we will never throttle accounts. No accounts in our current product offering are ever throttled...

CW are these line + data packages or just data?

Actually keen to see the capped packages...they're slowly getting to the point where I'm thinking "hmm that might be enough". Converting my current uncapped price to AH means 150gb...

CW replied to me with.. bundled stuff. I like to keep my line with telhellscum.

Perhaps one of our support staff messed up? We offer both bundled and unbundled products. Please PM me your details and I'll be sure the correct information is sent to you. Apologies about this - we certainly don't only offer bundled products...

Either or, Havoc. The choice is yours to move your line to Crystal Web, and we offer discounts for doing so. The 24 hour support means a better level of support too, for both the internet and dsl line portion if migrated to us.

By launch we'll hopefully have our revised capped offerings in place too, so hold tight...;)

Hah, it wasn't going to be easy to keep a lid on this.

I think you have a lot of excited people on this forum looking for ADSL "for the people, by the people".

Good luck for launch. I may even move my schedule up by 1 month (screw OW).

And I really hope this Cybersmart thing won't be an issue. As they were my first ISP, I have some serious reservations about anything to do with them. They are famous for running out of capacity. I just hope they don't run out of that with CW users :)

June nnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeddddsssss to fly. That 24/7 support alone will make me move.

Sounds good, but then again since 2004 I had ADSL packages from various providers (about 6 up to now) I never had to call my ISP for any problem. Only trouble I had was with Telkom itself.

Don't ignore it....
Certainly wont particularly where there is an opportunity in the rural market
but the exchange shut down issue needs to be given some thought ...

The real question is how open is Telkom to collaboration in the space ...

@CrystalWeb/DJ

Are you able to do a bit of test streaming of Filmon?
Running XBMCHub's F.T.V. even in SD mode with my AH business 8MB account was like walking through syrup. :(

Running on cybersmart backbone won't this be very limited on what you can do for pricing? Sounds to me that this will be a lot like the old wazzup isp.
We aren't locked to any particular backbone network although it is certainly true that like any ISP the scope of work we can do on pricing is limited by upstream providers. Currently the biggest obstacle to pricing flexibility is the IPConnect constraints and pricing from Telkom and this applies regardless of who your backbone network is (I still need to fully establish the situation with respect to SAIX but Telkom Internet are now using IPConnect like any other ISP - with the same pricing concerns) and then the international transit cables. I have been personally involved in ICT policy lobbying for quite some time (particularly with regard to LLU) and Crystal Web has adopted as company policy that we will push for improving broadband in SA - so what we can do to get pricing better for the consumer (whether our client or not) we certainly will. We also are not a business that is built on being cheap - we certainly will be damned if we price ourselves out of the market but quality is of vital importance to us. The costs involved in providing quality customer service - especially on trajectories that are aimed around developing (or growing, although people aren't plants) skilled technical support and sales staff (who whilst maintaining high levels of professionalism are not automatons) for an expanding business - is always going to feature as a major factor in the pricing that we are able to deliver, and will probably cause DJ to loose all his hair within the half decade [my hair has a life of her own]. Of great importance though is that there is competition between the backbones (and the term is being used loosely here) and this needs to translate into a vibrant industry. Each backbone and each of the many networking teams that operate in the industry has strengths and weaknesses and a massive amount of value can be unlocked by businesses actively seeking value in this complex market. We hope to be one such business.

We therefore will not invest in infrastructure were there already is adequate infrastructure in place (trenching copper) or where the infrastructure is still coming on stream but will rather look at infrastructure gaps and build there. Our approach is to view participants in the Internet business as being enablers of other businesses - including their competitors - and where we can secure an appropriate business model that sees investment in infrastructure where there is a gap we will make that move. There are several projects which we are working on which form part of the vision but the ADSL ISP business has found itself prioritized for various reasons.

By infrastructure I don't only mean physical networking facilities but also software, systems, know how, relationships (informal, formal and legal) and facilitation skills.

Yes, I remember Wazzup. They were squeezed like lemons, there was no margin for proper support. Their unshaped was in fact shaped as well.

In the end they stopped providing uncapped because Cybersmart was not cooperating with them.

Who knows, perhaps things have changed.

Wazzup did not pay Cybersmart - that's why they had been cut off.

DJ/Paul any chance of getting a test account ?

Unfortunately not. We are no longer offering test accounts on the system as we are evaluating a new method to offer these to potential customers...

I am super impressed - sent an email enquiring about prices and within 10 mins got a mail. Now just have to get out of another ISP - that is my only hold up. I am hoping this community can help you chaps grow. But just be careful of the trap-falls of the other ISP's that seemed to start off with good intentions but found the lure of other things too sweet. Here's looking at you Afrihost (network is overloaded with people and shaping is too hectic), OW (hope you don't need to use your account during the day - cause it won't work) and Mweb (seemed to come right for the people at one stage but now seem to have become sneaky again).

As a new customer i am really happy with the service I have received so far, setting up the account was fast and the information and help i got was great. I cannot wait till the 1st to put your offerings to the test :)
